Meet Ms. Garris

Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!

I will start by first introducing myself. I am Ms. Garris but I normally go by Ms. G. This is my second year at Spring Valley High School and my 6th year teaching. I was born and raised in Lancaster, SC (Go Bruins) and graduated from Lancaster High School in 2009. From Lancaster, I moved to Greenwood to study Multi-Categorical Special Education. I graduated from Lander University in 2013. Upon graduation, I started teaching at Newberry High School. I stayed there for four years, took a year off from teaching, and came to Spring Valley last year. in 2015, I was awarded my Master's of Education degree with an emphasis in Intellectual Disabilities from Converse College. I currently reside in Columbia with my sweet animals: KoKo (my 2 year old lab/hound mix) and Mittens (my 7 year old tuxedo cat).

I am so excited to start this school year with all of our previous and new students. This year I am teaching Essentials of: English 1, 2, Social Studies 1 and 2. The students will be rotating classes between my room, Mrs. Braza and Mrs. Stepp for all SC Credential Students and Non Credential Students. Mrs. Braza will be teaching Math and Science while Mrs. Stepp will be teaching students Employability skills.

I hold my students to high standards and expect them to take responsibility for their actions and learning. I also want students to enjoy school and work in an encouraging environment. Students are to follow the syllabus given on the first day of school. Students will have weekly homework and vocabulary test on Thursday's.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to teach at Spring Valley High. Your students are all unique and individualized learners. My goal is to help them reach all their individual goals in a positive learning environment. I will be teaching English/ Language Arts and Social Studies this year.
