Protect Air and Water
Air-We have plants placed all throughout our school and in nearly every classroom. We understand that it helps improve the air we breathe. We also have a large air quality flag that alerts parents, students, and teachers when the air quality is not good for students to go outside. We have also placed up the no car idling signs!
We want to breathe clean air at school inside and out!
A+ Girls Every year take cutting from plants to give to anyone in the building who needs a plant. The teach others by adding a label telling about the plant and why it is good for your classroom or office. They always love learning about the different plants and how they help us.
Here is Kieoni taking our B2 vehicle count. Please have those engines turned off. She learned how many vehicles are polluting our air around our school. She wants them to know to keep it off while you wait.
Earth Day 2020 was a little different. We did a virtual project. Students created a poster or sign for Earth Day. This is Layla in Ms. Perkins 3rd Grade Project.
Here is Layla and with her Cabbage from the 3rd Grade Cabbage Program. Every third grader received a plant from Bonnie Plants to grow. They learn all about the plant and how to take care of it. They also teach others by sharing their new knowledge about growing your own cabbage.
Fall Walk to School Day 2020
Students who walked to school signed a banner to hang in the school letting everyone know how they help the earth. Students learned all about the how they help the earth through our school show CTV. Each day slide were shared on the news show about how walking to school benefits students and earths ozone. Then they taught others about what they had learned about why it is so cool to walk to school.
Learn: Students learn about the importance of protecting our resources. Rain barrels capture water from a roof and hold it for later use such as on lawns, gardens or indoor plants. Collecting roof runoff in rain barrels reduces the amount of water that flows from your property. Do: Students use the "harvested" rain water. They also teach others why it is important to use the rain barrel water. They share with families and we share on CTV.
