What is Bengal Biodiesel?

Bengal Biodiesel is a program at Blythewood High School that allows students to gain real world experience through the creation of biodiesel. In this program, students will learn industry standard laboratory skills by producing and analyzing biodiesel that meets the ASTM-6751 standard. Just like industry professionals, students follow detailed procedures based on industry standards. Throughout this program, students not only produce a product that reduces carbon emissions and our dependence on fossil fuels, but also learn real world, marketable skills that will fuel their future.

Why?

We believe that students have the ability to thrive in entry level STEM careers. This program is designed to empower students to lead the workforce of tomorrow!

What made this course special was that we got to practice these skills in real-life situations. This kind of training made sure we not only learned to communicate well but also understood why it's so important in different parts of our lives, like at work or with friends.

Junior - Blythewood High School

I was able to realize through this program that I'm not actually bad at working with a group, I've just been doing it in the wrong environment. The activeness made it easier for me to communicate and divide tasks with people, rather than feel stressed and like I have to be in control for things to actually get done, like in a group project. This course helped me learn and grow."

"The problem-solving skills honed in the class, especially when faced with challenges in biodiesel production, will be beneficial when dealing with complex medical cases as a doctor. The community-oriented projects in Bengal Biodiesel class have inspired me to incorporate community service into my future medical practice, fostering a sense of empathy and social responsibility."
