Course Description:

Drama 3: Students will learn drama techniques appropriate for advanced actor and improve improvisation techniques, vocal and body exercises, and participate in 1 act play either with speaking part, walk on, stage manager, or stage crew. Students must participate in 1act play/performance as final exam. Performance is a mandatory participation grade. Exceptions: illness or injury with doctor/hospital note or death in family with funeral bulletin/obituary in the newspaper. Because of Covid19 we return to face to face learning, Google.classroom will be location of assignments and where they are to be uploaded. I will send you the class code via email.

Scope and Sequence:

First 9 Weeks: Voice and Diction, Characterization, Theatre Production, Film/Documentary

Second 9 Weeks: Renaissance History, Scene work-Taming of the Shrew, Theatre Performance

Goals and Expectations:

  1. Students will be able to identify and demonstrate advanced drama and improvisation techniques.

  2. Students will be able to identify and demonstrate proper rehearsal etiquette in performance preparation.

  3. Students will participate in a performance either with a speaking or nonspeaking role, or crew position.

  4. Students will be able to identify and explain Theatre production as appropriate to their course.

Discipline Rules for online class:

1. Student will complete all assignments by posted deadline. (25 participation points)

2. Student will be polite and respectful to the teacher in all email communications and google.classroom. (25 participation points)

3. Student will participate in online discussions, complete worksheets for class. (25 participation points)

4. Students will watch assignment videos and answer questions or provide a synopsis of material (25 participation points)

5. Students will be graded according to the Richland District 2 grading policy during Covid19.

When we return to the classroom:

Discipline Rules As Posted in Class Room: Theatre Etiquette/Participation Grade Will be used everyday

  1. Student will sit in chair at desk and teacher will provide instruction for the day. (25 participation points)

  2. Student will not talk in drama class. (25 participation points)

    1. Student with questions will raise hand and wait to be called on by the teacher.

    2. Student will not talk during class and will receive a 0 for Theatre Etiquette grade if talking.

    3. Students will not talk/text on cell phones in class & will receive a 0 for Theatre Etiquette Grade.

  3. Student will be polite and respectful to the teacher and other students using good manners at all times.(25 participation points)

  4. Student will participate in class discussions, observe stage plays and movies, work at desk on worksheets, and have a pen, pencil, or paper as needed for class. (25 participation points)

  5. Student is not allowed to eat in room. If student does, he/she will receive 0 for Theatre Etiquette grade.

  6. Bathroom Pass procedures

    1. 1 student AT A TIME may use the bathroom.

    2. Students MAY NOT use the bathroom the FIRST 15 MINUTES OF CLASS OR THE LAST 15 MINUTES OF CLASS. This is a school rule.

    3. Student must wait for pass to be brought back to class and placed at the front of the class. Do not tell teacher that you are next. You are next when you get the pass.

    4. Student must fill out the sheet on the Red Bathroom pass before going to the Bathroom. This provides a record of who is using the pass.

    5. Students with medical or monthly issues requiring additional bathroom visits—provide teacher with a doctor’s excuse. Notes from parents not accepted.

  7. For failure to adhere to any of the above rules, the following discipline will be used:

    1. For first offense: Grade affected, student assigned lunch duty, and parent contact.

    2. For second offense: Grade affected, student given hours, parent contact.

    3. For third offense: Grade affected, student given discipline referral, parent contract.

Grading Procedures:

Class Participation: 60% and graded daily and can include class discussions, observing examples of plays, film, working on a paper or project in class.

Projects and performances: 20% Written work: 20% This includes classwork & projects. Total: 100%

Automatic 0 for class participation:

Eating, drinking, or chewing gum in class Be disruptive and/or rude in class

Excessive talking Refusal to work on assignment or participate in discussions

Using a Cell phone, Chromebook, or other electronic device unless approved by teacher for class that day.

Grading Scale-A = 100-90 B = 89-80 C = 79-70 D = 69 – 60 F = 59 – 0

Materials needed-Drama Notebook to complete Assignments and projects

Students need their chromebook for assignments. All students held to Academic Integrity Policy of Richland 2.

Electronic Device Use Policy: Students are not to use any electronic devices during drama classes unless approved by teacher. Chromebooks will be used if required for the classroom activity. Students will receive a 0 for inappropriate use of electronic devices in class. Students are not to charge any Electronic Device in class.

No Exit from Class Policy: Students may not leave drama class to go to another teacher’s classroom, guidance, the main office, or gym. Students Need to Handle Personal Errands and Visits to Teachers at lunch, before and after class. If a Guidance Counselor or Administrator needs to speak with you, they will call or email me to send you to them.

Richland Two Academic Integrity Policy: “On my honor, I have never given nor received unauthorized assistance on this assignment. I understand that any violation of the RSDII honor code will result in academic and disciplinary action.”

Attendance Policy* “Students are allowed 10 absences in any year-long course and five (5) absences in any semester course. These totals INCLUDE all absences documented with excuses. Any student exceeding the allotted totals will receive a failure due to attendance. Please refer to the student handbook for information regarding excessive absence recovery. ”

Make-up Policy Make up Work Policy: I do not accept late work unless you are sick-1 day out=1 day to make up, 3 days out=3 days to make up, etc.

Re-take Policy There are no “tests” for this course-students will submit projects online and performing students will do a live performance-either face to face or virtual. Projects may be resubmitted one time if student has failed project. For students unable to participate in the performance, students will have to complete an alternate assignment.

Tutoring Schedule Students may contact Dr. Richardson via email to set up a time for extra help.

Exam Exemption Statement Only Seniors with an A will be exempt from the final exam project at the end of the semester. Seniors will be expected to attend the review class during exam week and will only be excused on the day the exam is administered. Exam performances will be presented prior to exam day and Senior students ARE EXPECTED to participate.
