Professor Hsin-Chien Huang is an artist, and a director in the area of mixed media. Science, technology, new media, programming, and algorithms are the tools that he uses to bring the universe of his imagination to life. He has served as artistic director for SEGA and Sony. Huang has also collaborated with pioneering American media artist Laurie Anderson and their VR work La Camera Insabbiata (Chalkroom) won the Best VR experience Award at the 74th Venice International Film Festival(the first time the festival introduced a virtual-reality section); his work Bodyless was also nominated in the 76th festival.
In 2001, he founded Storynest Studio, which engaged in artistic creation and commercial design. Huang is currently a distinguished professor at National Taiwan Normal University.
In his classroom meetings, Professor Huang introduces his recent VR cinema work Saṃsāra was exhibited at the Moody Center for the Arts throughout the month of March 2022 (the exhibit was available for public viewing from 3/1/22 - 4/1/22). Saṃsāra has been honored with awards from SXSW for best virtual cinema, best VR story at Cannes, and with many other awards from VR festivals around the world.
