Students work hard to do their best every single day. Many of them may struggle with mastering certain skills. This is why it is so important to build their confidence by celebrating every successful step they take - even the small ones! Learning is hard work! If we always expect perfection, we may never meet our goals - and that is true for every human being, big and small! If we celebrate progress, it makes us want to keep working, learning and growing!
** Research supports the idea that praise should be immediate and specific. This helps the student understand exactly what he or she did well so they can repeat that behavior or action.
Teaching Students - Not Programs
One thing we do know for sure though, is that learning is best when it is fun and multi-sensory (uses sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell)!
There are many ways to practice a skill. The more fun we have when we practice, the more likely we are to remember that skill. Since we are building a foundation for all other learning, we want these skills to be fully understood and stick like glue! Fun and games help create that glue!
