STATE PRESCHOOL POSITIVE DISCIPLINE PROGRAM
PBIS- Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports
Positive Discipline means redirection, explaining to a child what is not acceptable, why, and what is acceptable and why. It means using a calm voice. It means seeking to understand the feelings of the child and acknowledging the legitimacy of those feelings.
Along with Positive Discipline is our responsibility to teach young children peaceful conflict resolution. To do this, we must talk with, model, and provide role-play opportunities for young children to practice solving a problem using polite words, respectful demeanor, and thinking about the other person’s intent.
See Preschool Parent Handbook for more information.
Expectations for PBIS are Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful. Posters for areas of the classroom and outside are posted for reference of expected behaviors.
PBIS is a school wide framework for establishing the social culture and behavioral supports needed for a school to be an effective learning environment for all students.
Research shows PBIS schools have:
Ø A significant reduction in problem behavior
Ø Increased academic performance
Ø Improved perception of safety
Ø Reduction in bullying behaviors
Ø Improved social-emotional competence
RUSD Early Education Expectations are:
