After talking about the sheer creativity behind St. Basil’s Cathedral, I begin by demonstrating my strategy for drawing the cathedrals: starting at the bottom. Many artists (adults and kids) will want to begin in the middle and draw a column/line down to the bottom of the paper. Resist this urge! Instead, try it this way: On the smaller 12” x 15” white paper, draw 3-5 columns, starting near the mid-point of the paper and drawing the lines to the bottom of the paper. Make some columns wide and others narrow. Begin on the left and work across the paper. These buildings will be in front—the closest to the viewer. Just make the basic shapes; details can wait.
