Music of the Month
By Ella Cassidy
For April's piece the theme is music by smaller(ish) artists. These artists are all ones that don’t have too many monthly listeners.
Up first is the albumBug by Alix Page. This is technically an EP, but it’s similar enough to an album. This was released a couple of weeks ago and it’s already become one of my favorite pieces of music. My favorite tracks are "Break the Band Up," :Sweet,"and "Bug." The common theme throughout the songs is growing up and the fear of growing up. Her entire song "Bug" talks about how she imagined herself to be as she grew older. Since the release of her EP, she’s grown more as an artist and achieved more monthly listeners.
Next up is the song of the month, which is "American Teenager" by Ethel Cain. This song has gotten a ton of praise and attention from multiple celebrities. Barack Obama once said that this was one of his favorite songs, and Gracie Abrams made a cover of it. This is Cain's Most popular song and it’s for a reason. This song is about frustration with the world and there’s a lot of emotion put into the vocals.
My Artist of the Month is Lizzy McAlpine. A bit of her music ends up going viral, but she has so many songs that are not popular at all. Lizzy McAlpine is very similar to many popular artists, like Phoebe Bridgers or Gracie Abrams. One of her best songs is "Pushing it Down and Praying," which arguably may be one of my favorite songs and music videos of all time. Her recent album, Older (and Wiser) ,has been a big success in her career with her song, "Spring into Summer," doing exceptionally well. Throughout her career she has produced a plethora of good music.
