Senior High Capstone
The Senior High ISTE Capstone is a culminating assessment of students' knowledge and ICT skills throughout three years at Sperry. The project also seeks to build students' understanding of their passions and place in the world. The purpose of this project is to allow students to reflect on their learning, engage in passion-based research, and deliver a persuasive and informative speech.
Kicking Off the Capstone
January 29th-February 2nd
In order to kick off the Senior High Capstone, students must spend time reflecting and thinking about their passions and a potential message to share. The proposal, pitch, or hypothesis of the Comet Conversation must be grounded in extensive research, as well as personal connections to the topic.
A number of varied credible internet and database sources are required to support the research proposal, hypothesis, or pitch. During the first leg of research, students showcase the ability to evaluate one internet source for credibility. Task 1 evaluates only one source, but the process of checking internet sources for credibility must continue.
For the research portion of the Capstone, a range of sources and notecards must be completed. Estimate, for basic proficiency, at least ten notecards from a number of varied sources. Database sources will not need credibility checks, while all internet sources must have credibility checks. After all of the research is complete, Task 2 requires all the research notecards to be organized into some type of rough draft or preliminary outline for the Comet Conversation.
The best speeches and presentations use data to motivate and inspire the audience. Using the research from the previous tasks, analyze all the data and research to create a custom graphic for Task 3. The custom visual will be directly referenced in the Comet Conversation and be used to inform or persuade. For Task 4, draft the Comet Conversation's script and its accompanying visuals. Task 5 is the final leg of the Capstone and involves recording, editing, and publishing the Comet Conversation.
