2023-2024 Class Mission Statement
(Created by Students)
Our class is like a garden.
We celebrate what makes us unique.
We advocate for what helps us sprout.
We know we grow at different rates.
We deserve a safe place to bloom, without judgement.
We should feel welcome, accepted, supported and comfortable.
We treat each other with kindness and respect.
We have access to books where we all can be seen and learn about others.
We want to learn about topics that are important to us.
We are active listeners who give our best effort.
That’s why our garden is beautiful.

About Mrs. Van Scooter
I grew up in the Rochester area. When I was in fifth grade I learned the clarinet, sang in chorus and played soccer. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher and loved to read from a young age! We lived near a library, and I would check out as many books as I could carry.
I went to college at SUNY Fredonia, where I received my degree in Childhood and Special Education with a focus on English. I was fortunate enough to student teach in Harlem in New York City. After that, I completed my graduate work at Nazareth College, where I received a Master's Degree in Literacy.
I have been teaching in Rush Henrietta for over ten years! Before I was a fifth grade teacher, I taught fourth grade and reading. I've been lucky to get to know many RH families during this time.
In my free time I like to read, watch movies and spend with friends and family. I also enjoy going for hikes. Some of my favorite places in Rochester are The Public Market, Coffee Shops and The Memorial Art Gallery.
