Class Syllabus

Geometry L2: Mrs. LaPenta's Class Expectations 2021-2022

Course Description

This course contains the same concepts and topics as Geometry Level I, but it is characterized by more applications of geometric properties and less rigorous treatment of proofs. Algebraic skills are reviewed and used in calculation of geometric problems. Deductive reasoning and logical approach are used throughout the course, although not emphasized as much as in Level I Geometry.

Communication / Extra Help / Math Lab

Communication is essential! As soon as you have a question or concern please reach out to me. I will be available most days after school, just let me know what day you would like to stay for extra help!

There is also Math Lab every period. You can attend math lab during your study hall/ academic lab/ study skills/ lunch period. The schedule is posted in the hallways and on the google classroom/ my website. This is a great resource. Do not wait to use it!

Parents, you can reach me at kaitlin.lapenta@rhamschools.org or you can call my google voice number 860-295-3577

Required Materials

-Required: Scientific Calculator. Preferred: TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculator. You can not use your phone as a calculator.

-Binder with dividing tabs, Paper, Graphing Paper, pencil, and a pen to correct your work.

-Compass (you can purchase one from the school store for $2)

Homework

Success in mathematics can only be achieved through practice; therefore, homework will be assigned after every class. Studying mathematics is a way of learning how to think, how to reason and to use logic. Your homework, as well as tests and quizzes, should demonstrate a logical process of thought.

- Make sure you take out your homework at the start of class

- Daily homework will be graded on a scale of 0-4. Homework is graded for effort and completion. In order to receive 4 points all problems must be attempted with work shown.

- NO WORK = NO CREDIT (unless I am giving an assignment on deltamath and I tell you you do not need to hand in your work).

- If the homework is on paper we will be going over the answers the next class. In this case late homework is not accepted for credit (unless you are absent). If it is on Delta Math you will be able to complete late work for partial credit. Please see me if you have an extenuating circumstance, communication is key!

Make-up work

All material (notes, quizzes, tests and class work) missed during excused absences must be made up by the student within a timely manner (see student handbook). If the grade is not made up a grade of ZERO will be assigned. Tests (since they are announced in advance) will be taken during class time on the first day back. Work missed for an unexcused absence CANNOT be made up and will count as a zero (see student handbook).

I will use google classroom to post assignments and notes from class. If you are absent check the google classroom to see what you missed.

Grading Policy

Assessments: 80%

Homework/Classwork: 20%

Plagiarism and cheating

Plagiarism and cheating will not be tolerated and will result in a grade of zero on that assignment or assessment. The work you submit must be your own. If I have any concern over whether the work is your own you will be asked to explain your process individually with Mrs. LaPenta.
