Data Privacy

About

Regional School District 8, in conjunction with its students, staff, community, contractors, and the State of Connecticut, is committed to protecting the privacy and safety of our students and staff by following and demonstrating compliance to FERPA, COPPA, Connecticut PA 16-189, and any future protocols.

The district complies with all federal and state legislation concerning student data privacy including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Act Concerning Student Data Privacy (PA: 16-189).  Connecticut PA 16-189 requires all boards of education to enter into written agreements with contractors who collect, store, and process student information.  Boards of Education must also provide notice of such contract and list the contract on the boards' website.  Below is a link to a database titled RHAM Approved Technology Applications and Services.  There, you will find a list of all contractors that Regional School District 8 has attempted to enter into written contracts with, the date a contract was completed, the signed contract, and the contractors website and privacy policy noting what student data is collected and how is it used.  To the right is a picture noting the software approval process. Software Approval Process

Approved Applications, Software, and Programs

Staff must confirm with the RHAM Approved Technology Applications and Services Database that a particular application is approved by RHAM and meets regulations for the Connecticut State Statue for Student Data Privacy before using that particular application in your classroom.  If an application you want to use is not listed, please fill out the Regional School District 8 Application Request Form.  The Technology Department will then try to enter into a written contract with that contractor.  When searching for applications to use in your classroom, look for the logos below to help facilitate a faster process of getting applications approved.  Developers with these logos have already met certain criteria in the ways that they collect, maintain, and use student data and information. These logos do not negate the software approval process.  Email the RHAM Technology Helpdesk with any questions.
