Each student in grades 7-12 will receive a Chromebook to use for school instruction. A Chromebook is a low-cost computer that connects to the internet via a wireless connection. The Chromebook will interact with online websites and other tools that will help aid in instruction. Students in the high school and middle school are issued a Chromebook and charger that they are able to take home with them. The Chromebook is expected to come to school fully charged and the batteries are designed to last an entire school day. Student use of the Chromebooks are to follow the Board of Education polices on the link below. Any breach of these policies will result with disciplinary action.
RHAM Chromebooks come with accidental insurance through our Chromebook insurance and repair partner Trafera. Through our insurance agreement, we are allowed to fix all screens, trackpads, and keyboards in-house while other repairs must be sent out to Trafera.
If a student is having issues with their Chromebook, they should bring their Chromebook to the library. Library staff will attempt to fix small issues such as slow Chromebooks. Any other repairs will be sent to the Technology Department for diagnosis. A repair loaner Chromebook will be issued temporarily to the student. If the repair can be completed in-house, the repair usually takes up to two days depending on the number of Chromebooks in the repair queue. Any repairs that must be sent out can take up to five weeks depending on Trafera's repair queue. Once the Chromebook is repaired, the Chromebook will be given back to library staff and the student will be emailed or called down to the library to exchange their loaner Chromebook.
If you forget your Chromebook at home or your Chromebook runs out of battery, you may go to the library and a daily loaner Chromebook or charger will be issued for the day. Daily loaner Chromebooks or chargers must be returned to the library by 2:10 on the same day. If they are not returned, a fine will be issued to the student's account until the device is returned.
