UKUCINGISISA - Ndithatha ixesha ukucinga ngeenjongo zam. Ndibone apho ndifikelele khona. Ndiyazingca ngendikuphumeleleyo. Ndinovuyo ngeenjongo ezintsha ezizayo.
REFLECT - I take time to think about my goals and see how far I’ve come. I learn from my mistakes and I feel proud of what I’ve achieved. I am excited about new goals ahead!
Today we celebrated the "last second break" with our Grade 7 Rustybugs - one of the RGJS traditions that marks the many "lasts" for our girls as the end of their junior school journey draws closer. It is also an opportune time for them to reflect on their time at our school in preparation for the new chapter that awaits them. This is why it is incredibly important to teach children how to reflect meaningfully so that their lives are enriched and they gain perspective on their individual growth.
Teaching children to reflect requires that we model self-reflection for them. They need to see helpful examples of talking about our own thought processes, how we make decisions and how we learn from our mistakes and experiences. Modelling how we practise self-care and manage emotions forms part of these teaching moments that happen as we go through our daily lives.
Creating a reflective environment in the home and at school fosters a safe space of trust and respect where children learn to feel comfortable in sharing their thoughts and feelings without judgement. Make it a family activity. Sharing thoughts and daily experiences during routines like meal times encourage self-reflection.
Sometimes creating times for special activities allows reflective practice to become more intentional and purposeful. Journaling, art and reading together are all great opportunities to engage in the practice of reflection together.
Celebrate successes and frame mistakes as learning opportunities. Most of all, be patient. Self-reflection is a skill that takes time and practice to develop.
As we commence the formal assessment period, I wish all our Rustybugs well. May everything that you do be a reflection of the effort you have put into your learning this year. And remember, test results don't define your worth. Just do your best!

Hi everyone. My name is Kevin Topkin and I will be teaching music at Rustenburg next year. I have been playing piano most of my life and it is the thing that brings me the most joy. Apart from that, I enjoy thrifting, and now that you know my face, you might see me at a Saturday market or two. Recently, I've also really gotten into woodworking, even though I'm still learning I find the process of building something very satisfying. I am very excited to share the joys of music to all of you next year.

MUSIC
Congratulations to our incredibly talented musicians and music staff for an outstanding Kaleidoscope Concert last night! The evening was a plethora of hits from the movies performed by our Rustybugs, music staff and guest musicians. We even had a special performance by none other than our school principal, Mrs Belinda Petersen, on bass guitar.
Our music department took the audience on a musical rollercoaster, which included our Guinness World Record Marimba Band, Junior and Senior Strings, Cello Ensemble, Saxophone Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, Senior Choir, Vocal Ensemble, Wind Band and orchestra.
The audience was also treated to numerous solos and a Grand Ensemble to round off this wonderful Kaleidoscope of Music from the Movies.
As soon as the editing process is complete, we will share the many photos and videos of this incredible evening.
Thank you to Mrs Harlene Veotte, Rustenburg Staff, Rustenburg Musicians and our school community for all the hard work and support.

2025 Gr 1 - 3: Sports Day - Final Championship Race Results
2025 Gr 4 - 7: Sports Day - Final Championship Race Results
We hosted our final sports event of the year with our A and B teams taking part in a gala at Grotto. Springfield, Greenfield, Oakhurst and Micklefield joined us on a scorching afternoon.
We bid farewell to our Grade 7's and started the gala with a fun PJ race between all the Grade 7's from the competing schools.
Both the A and B team performed exceptionally well and it was a wonderful way for our swimmers to bring their season to an end. We would like to thank our captains, Kara Pretorius Gr 7b and Gemma Frankish Gr 7a, for leading the team so well and our Grade 7 swimmers for their service to the team this season.
The Water Polo teams wrapped up their season with staggered matches over the last 2 weeks, with the highlight being a fun session with their coaches and managers.
A huge thank you to the players and coaches for the hard work they have put into the season and our captains, Gia Heldsinger Gr 7b and Dian Chu Gr 7c, for the way they have led the team this year.
OUTREACH
Our Service and Outreach teams have been busy shopping, decorating and packing Santa Shoe Boxes for those less fortunate.
A very big THANK YOU to all our families for the donations from our Heritage Day KARRI collection.
Mrs Pam Heiberg delivered all the boxes, which were greatly appreciated by the Santa Shoe Box Team at Canal Walk.
Thank you to all our service and outreach learners and Ms Reyanah Manuel for all you do in assisting those in need.
Thank you to our school community for all your support.
We received the plea below from Mr Sibulele Magini, principal of Molo Mhlaba Girls' School, for a preschool in Khayelitsha. Their requests are for physical items, not monetary donations.
Anyone getting rid of any of the following:
⭐️ standard-size door
⭐️ leftover brightly coloured paint for indoor walls
⭐️ large carpet offcuts or rugs that are still in a usable condition
⭐️ children's sleeping mats - this could be something like a thickish yoga mat that is still in a usable state
⭐️ pre-loved curtains with a pattern suitable for a pre-school
Ms Daniswa “Mam’ Lilitha” Galimani runs the Sinelitha Project. It is a preschool she founded in 2023 out of love and necessity. She has 30 children enrolled, ranging from 3 months to 5 years. She opens her doors from 6 am - 6 pm, giving working parents and those looking for employment a safe and nurturing environment for their young children.
Sinelitha is registered with the Department of Social Development as an NPO (278471). She is in the process of registering as an ECD but needs to improve certain infrastructure and furniture, such as the door, paint, sleeping mats, etc., as per the Department of Education inspector's report.
The community surrounding Sinelitha is rich in skill and spirit. Several parents have volunteered to assist with tiling, painting, laying carpets, etc., but they lack the materials to begin. Donations of materials (as listed above) would therefore empower local parents to actively participate in improving the school while building community pride and ownership.
If you can donate any of the items, please get in touch with Pam Heiberg, pamhei@rgjs.org.za
