Eenheid - Ek is in eenheid met ander. Ek waardeer die verskille. Ek ondersteun nie vooroordeel nie. Ek is 'n vredemaker. Ek gee om vir die aarde en alle lewende dinge.Â
The last week or so has been incredibly difficult for us as a school community as we mourn the loss of Mrs Maho. Although she wasn't part of our staff for too long, she undoubtedly had a huge impact on us and the Grade 5b learners. Again, we are reminded of the fragility of life and to appreciate and value the people around us. As one of our staff members shared on Tuesday morning: "We have no idea what someone else may be going through even though they may smile. We should always treat each other with kindness." How fitting as we launch the value of unity for this term. In order for us to truly practise impembelelo (impact), we need to enhance the power of unity.Â
Unity helps people work and live together peacefully. When you practise unity, you feel connected to everyone and everything. Unity brings harmony, like the music made by the different instruments in an orchestra. Ultimately, the power of unity lies in its ability to bring people together and create a sense of shared purpose. By embracing unity, organisations can achieve success that goes beyond individual accomplishments and creates a strong foundation for future growth and prosperity.Â
As we embark on this busy fourth term, let us continue to work together towards building a strong foundation of unity that will continue to carry Rustenburg into the future. I wish all our staff and families all the best for the term and look forward to connecting with you at our various school events and celebrations.
Belinda Petersen
Principal
We send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of our dear Busi Maho who passed away on Wednesday 4 October.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who held her close to their hearts. Thank you to all our families and staff who have been and continue to assist the Bout-Maho family, your support is greatly appreciated.Â
On Tuesday 10 October, we held a memorial service in the Orton Hall to honour the life of Mrs Maho and celebrate the incredible impact she made on everyone who was blessed to cross paths with her. The family extended their heartfelt appreciation to everyone at RGJS who played a role in organising the service, attended the service, and made contributions to the family. They were overwhelmed by your generosity and care for them during their time of grief.
The family has arrived safely in the Eastern Cape for the funeral which will take place tomorrow. Please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.Â
Anyone who wishes to contribute towards the family may contact Pam Heiberg at pamhei@rgjs.org.za.Â
Our condolences to Carlen Riettels on the loss of her aunt. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this sad time.
Welcome to Sarah Mackenzie in Grade 2a for this term.
"I was raised on a dairy farm in the beautiful Midlands, KwaZulu Natal, surrounded by the warmth of my family.Â
Growing up on the farm instilled in me a deep appreciation for the outdoors and a profound connection with nature and animals.
From a young age, I discovered my passion for teaching, often engaging in imaginative 'Teacher Teacher' games with my brother.Â
This early interest laid the foundation for my later pursuit of a teaching degree at the University of Pretoria, an experience that I genuinely cherished.
My interests extend beyond the classroom, as I find joy in various activities. Running and playing club hockey not only keep me physically active but also contribute to my love for sports.Â
Baking is another avenue through which I express my creativity, and I find solace in reading a good book. I also love spending time with my friends and family.
This year marked a significant change in my life as I moved to Cape Town. Embracing this new chapter, I've come to love every moment of the vibrant city and its unique offerings.
The change has given me fresh perspectives and experiences, enriching my journey and further shaping the person I am becoming".

Today, some of the 2018 Grade 7s returned to Rustenburg to enjoy their Matric Tea. It was wonderful to see so many of our "old" Rustybugs reconnecting with each other and their "old" teachers. We wish them all the best for their upcoming final school exams.
During October our school community has numerous ways to raise funds for Cancer Awareness:
FUNKY HAT CIVVIES DAY - Tomorrow our Rustybugs can wear civvies to school with a funky hat, all in aid of HATS ON 4 CHILDREN'S PALLIATIVE CARE. All funds collected via KARRI will be donated directly to Paedspal.
iloveboobies SOCKS - Using the KARRI APP, girls and their families can order from a selection of socks, usually available from the ILOVEBOOBIES online store. Philippa Brinkmann, a past RGJS teacher, cancer survivor and now a full-time brand ambassador for ILOVEBOOBIES, has arranged the socks in this collection for RGJS. For every 5 pairs of socks sold, 1 woman in rural South Africa will be screened for breast cancer. All proceeds from sales will go to ILOVEBOOBIES.
GENTLY USED BRA DROP-OFF - If you have any gently used bras you would like to donate to iloveboobies, please drop them in the box at reception in Rustenburg House. The bras are donated to women in need in rural communities around South Africa.
