Welcome to Carla Coltman, who has joined RGJS as a Music teacher.

Carla is currently completing her Honours degree in Piano Performance at the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town, where she also completed her Bachelor of Music degree. She has been teaching piano since 2022 and is passionate about making music education both enjoyable and rewarding. Her teaching places emphasis on healthy piano technique, musical understanding, and nurturing each learner’s individual potential. She has developed a strong appreciation for healthy technique and mindful practice, which she incorporates into her teaching approach. Carla strives to create a positive and encouraging learning environment where learners feel confident, inspired, and supported in their musical journey.

On the last day of Term 2, our staff enjoyed a lunch with members of the School Governing Body.

Thank you to our Staff Connection Committee for arranging the lunch which ended off with Karaoke! We may have some staff joining the Music Department; we have many talented staff with beautiful singing voices😉

June and July were busy months for the stork! Four baby boys were born into the Rustenburg Staff Community.

Congratulations to Lijani and Allan Wallander on the birth of their son, Luke. Luke was born on Monday, 22nd June.

Congratulations to Ammaarah-Cassiem Eksteen & Maahir Eksteen on the birth of their son, Raadhi. Raadhi was born on Wednesday, 24th June.

Congratulations to Deja van der Westhuizen on the birth of her son, Carter. Carter was born on Sunday, 28th June.

Congratulations to Thapelo and Paula Phukuje on the birth of their son, Thuso. Thuso was born on Wednesday, 1st July. 

At the end of August, we bid a sad farewell to Pam Heiberg. Pam is not leaving the school scene entirely; she is joining KARRI. 

Thank you for all you have done for RGJS, Pam; we wish you well in the next chapter.

On Friday, 19 June, RGJS hosted the Grade 7 Mini Business Conference, an inspiring day designed to spark entrepreneurial thinking, build leadership skills, and introduce real-world business concepts to our Grade 7s.

To help prepare the girls for their upcoming Entrepreneur's Day assessment on Friday, 11 September, two industry guest speakers took the stage to share their real-world insights, practical advice, and stories of innovation. The conference equipped our learners with actionable tools and a fresh perspective on business, leaving them energised, informed, and excited about the endless possibilities of innovation!

Our Junior Jams concert, held on 19th June in collaboration with Rondebosch Boys’ Preparatory School, was a wonderful celebration of our youngest musicians. 

Featuring learners from Grades 1 - 4, the evening showcased remarkable confidence, enthusiasm, and musical growth as they performed for family and friends at such an early stage of their musical journeys. 

It was a pleasure to see the girls collaborating with their peers, supporting one another, and experiencing the joy of making music together.

Thank you to the Grade 7 Fundraising Team and the Grade 7 families and learners for donations, baked goods and a successful cake sale.

All funds raised by the Grade 7 Fundraising Team will be put back into projects that benefit all our learners. 

Congratulations to Rebecca Wiseman Gr 6c, who received her Western Province colours for tennis. Rebecca was part of the Cape Town team that played the Boland Cavaliers. 

She played 4 matches - 2 normal doubles and 2 mixed doubles with the result of 2 wins and 2 losses with the Cape Town team coming away victorious at the end of the day. 

Well done Rebecca, we are so proud of you.

Congratulations to Tazkia Mohamed Hoosain Gr 7a and Liberty Wallace Gr 7b, who competed in the Western Province Regionals Tournament during the holidays. 

Western Province dominated in the Regionals Tournament against other teams, resulting in WP Disas U13B - Tazkia playing against WP Zebras U13C - Liberty, with Disas winning the Tournament and Zebras placing second. 

Overall, for National and Regionals, Western Province were at the top for U13s.

Well done, Tazkia and Liberty, we are so proud of you.

We are delighted to share that Bianca Flanders, author of the bestselling Pumpkin series — Pumpkin Finds Her Queen, Pumpkin Finds Her Kindness, Pumpkin Finds Her Beat, and most recently, Pumpkin and the Hidden Heroes — will be visiting Rustenburg Girls’ Junior School on Wednesday, 29th July. Bianca will be sharing her stories with the Grade R, 1 & 2s.
