This week marks a historically significant moment in Rustenburg's story. On 29 January 1894, Rondebosch School for Girls was established in Rustenburg House. The original house was built in the late 1650s with vineyards, orchards and vegetable gardens. Interestingly, Rustenburg means "fortress of rest". The school name changed in 1926.
For 130 years, our beautiful school continued to grow and evolve into the two schools we know today as Rustenburg Girls' Junior School and Rustenburg Girls' High School. This moment in the schools' shared history took place in 1932. Oakhurst Girls' Primary School was originally established in 1906 as Camp Ground School for Girls, an independent branch of Rustenburg School for Girls'. It changed it's name in 1927.
Given this rich history, we should be proud of what has been achieved and the transformation we have been through over the years to continue serving girls' education and preparing them for their future. We are excited to celebrate this momentous occasion tomorrow!

Our Rustybugs and staff, working together in groups, will be making wind chimes from recycled materials. All learners are encouraged to bring something to add to their group wind chime. 1l Yoghurt tubs, feta tubs, and even ice cream containers make a great base for our wind chimes. Please bring all your recycled items to school tomorrow for this exciting project. You are most welcome to bring more than one item for the wind chime. All extra materials will be supplied by RGJS (glue, staplers, string etc.).
Our school will close at 12:00 tomorrow and aftercare will continue as normal. Traffic will be congested at pick-up time. Your patience and understanding to fellow parents and guardians is appreciated.
Celebrating 130 years of our fabulous school needs an extra special event!
All families are invited to our 130 BIRTHDAY CARNIVAL on Friday 9th February at Rustenburg Girls' High School. This is a combined celebration between RGJS & RGHS.

This is a cashless event - card facilities and Snapscan will be available.
On a Tuesday morning, our Rustybugs are encouraged to bring an extra sandwich and/or a piece of fruit for those less fortunate. We will share more about the school we will be supporting and the starting date soon.
It was wonderful to see the Grade 6 and Grade R learners getting to know each other on Wednesday. They gathered outside in their Houses on a beautiful morning, reading stories and chatting together. It was the perfect opportunity to welcome the Grade Rs and to familiarise them with their house meeting venues. Thank you Grade 6s for being so prepared and helping the Grade Rs to feel at home. We are looking forward to our Bug Buddy picnics tomorrow as we celebrate our school’s birthday.
Thank you to all our volunteers who have already committed to assisting in our school this year. By now you will have received communication from your class reps via email or WhatsApp. Our class reps form an integral link in connecting our school community. Please respect the "06:00 - 18:00" rule and only communicate between these hours.
If you have not yet joined your Class WhatsApp Group, please contact Pam Heiberg pamhei@rgjs.org.za
The parking bays directly in front of our school are a demarcated "Stop, Drop and Go" zone from 06:30 - 08:00. Please ensure that our Rustybugs have all their bags ready to exit the car to keep the traffic flowing.
The flow of traffic around our school is problematic and, if we work together as a community, we will all benefit. Details of additional traffic and safety arrangements will be shared in a circular next week.
We encourage ALL families to be courteous and kind to each other.
Unfortunately "remote jamming" has happened around our school in the past. Please check that your car is locked and all valuables are out of sight before walking away from your vehicle.
Keen to cycle to school, join the BikeBus every Friday!
