Welcome to all our new and returning RGJS families and staff!
Our Rustybugs expressed their nervous excitement at our first assembly of the year yesterday morning. The message focused on a different take on goal setting and New Year's resolutions. Everyone was encouraged to see the new opportunities and possibilities that a new school year brings. There are new things to learn, new friends to make and new challenges that will come our way. Mr Stamper demonstrated that achieving our goals is definitely not easy but it is possible! We need to remind ourselves that we are resilient and confident.
On Friday 27 January, our school will be celebrating 129 years! Preparations are well underway to celebrate this momentous occasion and launch our 2023 theme.
I look forward to building a stronger school community this year and engaging with you at our various school events.

Hi, I'm Phumza Jali, a mother of 2 girls. The first one is Nathi who's in Matric at Spes Bona High School and the young one is Alizwe who's in grade 5 at RGJS. I joined the Aftercare team in 2017. In January 2018, I joined the Grade R team. Working with the little ones is my passion. I love cooking and reading. I don't have a pet, but I love dogs and cats.

I love my job! No two days are the same and I am blessed to work with the most incredible people at RGJS. My husband and I will be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary this year. We have 3 incredible daughters and the most beautiful granddaughter.

We are excited to be continuing offering Music Appreciation classes through the Muzkanda Kids @ RGJS programme this year. Grade R, 1 and 2 learners are all welcome to sign up.
Muzkanda Kids is a unique programme of early childhood music education classes, created for the modern South African musical environment. It is presented by our part time cello teacher, Rina Schutte.
In formulating the Muzkanda Kids curriculum, 90 Notes Music Studio (https://90notes.co.za/) joined forces with Firefinch, a local research consultancy that specialises in music research (http://firefinch.co.za). Firefinch is headed by Dr Barry Ross, who holds a PhD from the Centre for Music and Science at the University of Cambridge. Firefinch leads research into the course content for Muzkanda Kids.
Lessons are presented in English, although children will have exposure to Afrikaans and isiXhosa vocabulary through the songs they learn. We use a very unique Colourful Number system to learn musical intervals.
Each lesson is accompanied by toys, puppets, and games to encourage implicit acquisition of aural skills through motor activity.

An exciting morning is in store for all our Rustybugs who may come to school in civvies on this special day.
The school day will end at 12:00. Aftercare will continue as normal until 18:00.
