Dear Parents and Guardians,
Hi! I would like to take a moment to introduce myself to you and your family. My name is Mrs. Mount and I am the School Counselor at Glenwood Springs Elementary. I am excited and honored to be a part of this amazing team of educators and staff. I look forward to meeting you and your student(s) and to helping your student(s) succeed to meet their own personal goals for this school year and beyond.
Our school will continue to offer counseling services as an additional resource to help your student succeed in their academic goals, as well as support social and emotional growth throughout the school year. Counseling services include individual or group counseling, social emotional learning in the classroom, observations, family support and consultation as well as prevention interventions and activities school wide. Many of these services focus on helping students learn ways to build positive social skills, learn ways to self-regulate, gain confidence in their ability to interact with others and learn ways to deal with problems and conflicts constructively.
I use our Habits of a Scholar (Compassion, Teamwork, Determination, Responsibility, Wonder and Enthusiasm), Social Skills Training and Second Step (www.secondstep.org) to guide the Social Emotional Learning. Bully-Prevention Learning and Safety Talks are offered over the course of the year. Your student may be referred to counseling from a teacher, staff member or from you as a parent/guardian. To make a referral, you may call the school or email me personally. The counseling office phone number is (970) 384-6111 and my email is: smount@rfschools.com.
This year I will host several “Coffee with the Counselor” where parents and families can come to discuss their concerns and receive education about ways to support the growth of their whole child. Please look for these dates. There will be three throughout the year. Parent permission is needed for all counseling services to take place. This can be either written or verbal so please check RED folders for permission slips as well as upcoming groups and social emotional learning activities to do in the home.

Please call the counseling office if you have ANY questions or concerns. I am thrilled to be working with the students of GSES and hope to meet all the families that make Glenwood Springs Elementary such a wonderful community!
Sincerely, Susan Mount, M.A. LPC
