Why did you start this project?
This is my capstone project for the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights John Lewis Young Leaders Fellowship. I got my inspiration from a similar data project, CIRIGHTS, that I have also worked on.
Why did you choose prisoners rights, children's rights, and media rights?
Why did you choose prisoners rights, children's rights, and media rights?
I have always been passionate about these rights. Media rights and free speech is the foundation of American democracy and protecting this right comes along with protecting the others. Secondly, I have done previous research and papers regarding prison conditions and wanted to expand my knowledge. Lastly, child labor is a hot topic in human rights discourse and I wanted to contribute to the discussion... I also work with kids and want to protect them.
How did you choose your 9 sample states?
How did you choose your 9 sample states?
I chose them based on political, geographical, and populous factors. I wanted to have a mix of red and blue states with varying populations that were located in different areas of the United States.
