ISD Content Consultant Leadership Team Procedures

Original Version Approved October 2014

Proposed Revisions for June 2021

Vision/Rationale for creating MAISA ISD Content Consultant Leadership Teams:

  • Offer a process for determining viability of statewide initiatives for collaborative work.

  • Optimize the effectiveness of ISD Content Consultants’ time and expertise (e.g., developing a project or resource once vs. 56 times)

  • Review state level data to identify potential needs.

  • Create a forum for discussion and deliberation regarding important teaching and learning issues in the content areas.

Purpose of MAISA ISD Content Consultant Leadership Team:

Each MAISA ISD Content Leadership Team is a collaborative group of ISD content consultants that support statewide work in the content areas in ways that create efficiencies, reduce costs, and ensure quality and equity in the delivery of services.

Mission:

MAISA Content Leadership Teams provide leadership, resources and direction for statewide initiatives focused on teaching and learning across ISDs that provide support and assistance to local districts and teachers.

Membership of the MAISA ISD Content Consultant Leadership Team:

Membership on each team is open to consultants employed by Michigan ISDs. Each ISD is encouraged to invite their ELA and Math Consultants to be active members of the appropriate Leadership Team - each ISD will have one vote on decisions.

Ex-officio Members - Each Leadership Team Executive Committee may invite individuals not employed by an ISD to participate as an Ex-officio member. Ex-officio members are not elected or appointed. They agree to serve as non-voting members because the team needs their expertise or influence. The executive committee may choose to further define the role of individual Ex-officio members as needed.

Defining Leadership Roles:

The following leadership roles shall be filled by an individual who serves as a full time ISD Content Consultant for a Michigan ISD. The term for each role is one year.

  • Chair

  • Past Chair

  • Chair Elect

  • Secretary

Chair - The membership shall elect a Chair to serve for a period of one year and to continue service as Past Chair the following year. The Chair shall preside at all executive committee and general membership meetings. The Chair and her/his executive committee will establish agendas for meetings and maintain all meeting records. The Chair will communicate regularly with the GELN Executive Director and will submit a short monthly update to the GELN Executive Director in advance of each monthly GELN meeting. The Chair shall appoint a committee to complete identified statewide projects as needed (ie. former ELA Professional Learning committee). The Chair will attend at least one GELN meeting per year to report on the Leadership Team’s work.

Chair Elect - The membership shall elect a member to this position to serve for a period of one year and to continue service as Chair the following year. The Chair Elect will participate in executive committee and general membership meetings and will serve as timekeeper at all meetings.

Secretary - The membership shall elect a member to this position to serve for one year. The secretary will take minutes during executive committee and general membership meetings and will keep electronic records of attendance and meeting resources in the shared Google Drive. The secretary will archive and post all resources developed by committees on an open access platform which can be linked to the www.gomaisa.org site.

Past Chair - The Past Chair shall serve as the Chair’s second, participate in executive committee and general membership meetings, and preside over annual elections.

Executive Committee - The Executive Committee shall be composed of the Chair, Chair Elect, Past Chair, and Secretary. This committee establishes all Leadership Team agendas, collaborates directly with the GELN Executive Director, and provides guidance and direction for the Leadership Team.

Elections - Elections shall be held on the last meeting of each academic year. [Note - The Chair Elect agrees to a three year commitment as this position transitions to Chair and Past Chair in consecutive years.]

Funding for the MAISA ISD Content Consultant Leadership Team:

MAISA provides a yearly budget for the reimbursement of lunch expenses to the ISD hosting the team meetings.

Decision Making:

Each ISD has one vote.
