SUMMER PRACTICE RESOURCES
Hey DTA Band members! I've put together a list of resources to help you stay sharp throughout the summer. We want to make sure we're all in good shape when we get back to school, so we can pick up where we left off and keep working to be the best middle school band in New Orleans! Keep reading for an outline of a good practice routine, and several websites you can use to keep your musical skills growing. As always, let me know if you have any questions- can't wait to see y'all!!
SAMPLE PRACTICE ROUTINE
We should all practice AT LEAST 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week. Here is what a practice session can look like:

Well, it's our last week of the school year! Hard to believe, isn't it? I really miss y'all and am sad we lost out on our concert, band trip, and a few other opportunities, but we will just have to do TWICE as much next school year and have an incredible year of band!
Check out the document below- it shows you how to make 10 homemade instruments out of things you have in your house! Make one, two, or even all 10 and you can have plenty of instruments to play throughout the summer! Love y'all, stay safe and enjoy your summer break!

We use several instruments in our band, but there are many more instruments in the world that you may not have heard. Ever heard a Crwth? How about a Esraj? And don't forget about Yangqins, Xuns, and Skoogs! (Yes, those are all real instruments, not typos!)
Click the link below to check out a list of almost every instrument in the entire world! Pick one or two that look fun to play or that you'd love to try, and share a picture of them in our BAND app or e-mail them to abower@renewschools.org! I can't wait to see which instruments you choose!

Practicing can be hard! Not just the hard work of playing your instrument, but even figuring out where to begin is a challenge. Watch the video below about how to have a good "practice cycle." He also has short videos at the bottom of the page explaining all different practice strategies! So here's what I want you to do:

Remember our friends Kinetika Bloco from London? If not, the video below will definitely help your memory! They've created a blog called The Lockdown Stories, where members share how they're feeling and how they're getting by. During stressful and uncertain times like these, it can be very helpful to hear from people who are facing similar struggles. Check out their stories at this link- it's a nice reminder that we're not alone!
What's even cooler is that they've invited YOU to share your story as well! I just sent mine, and they'll be posting it soon. If you'd like to share what you've been up to, how you're feeling, and some tips for staying positive, text or call me (570) 687-3967 and I'll put you in touch with our Kinetika Bloco friends! They'll ask you some questions, and post your interview on their website for all to see! Hope to hear from some of you soon to share your stories!

DRUM MACHINE
Click this link to access the online drum machine! The different drums/sounds are on the left (kick, snare, hihat, etc.) and the orange squares are when it plays. Click different spots to change the beat around and create your very own beats!
Bonus: Record your beat and post a video to the BAND App!!
NY Philharmonic Kids
Click this link to access the New York Philharmonic’s game room for kids! It has 12 great music-related games (I had too much fun testing them out for you!) to keep your minds tuned into music.
Bonus: Take a screenshot of your scores and post them in the BAND App photo album!
