Fun Bible Study Question involving Pi
When you take any circle and divide the circumference by the diameter, you get Pi. No matter the size of the circle, Pi stays the same.
A cubit is an ancient unit of length, historically based on the distance from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger. It generally ranged from 17 to 21 inches (approximately 43 to 53 centimeters).
So, giving the student the information above, one can ask : Was the sea of cast metal in The Temple of Solomon a circle, or just round? *This task leads understanding of Pi and measure units used in the Bible. It's an open question to help students explore.
1 Kings 7:23
23 Then he made the sea of cast metal. It was round, ten cubits from brim to brim, and five cubits high, and a line of thirty cubits measured its circumference.
