Please note: Due to the Co-VID waiver, we recommend that you begin by reviewing the New Jersey Department of Education's Temporary Certificate of Eligibility website. Under the waiver, you will need to apply for your Temporary CE if you have not passed exams by September 1st, 2020. This Temporary CE allows you to teach through the waiver period while you work towards passing your exams.
This is a free 35 question true/false test administered in the county office of education. This test is being offered online for the the 2020-21 School Year. Go to the red button to take the test online.
Contact information and locations of county offices are available on the Department website. You will need to contact the office to schedule testing. When you go to take this exam, bring 2 forms of picture ID. We encourage you to complete this step as soon as possible.
Note: You may be exempt from this exam if you completed a college course such as biology, health, or nutrition.

The next step involves applying for your Certificate of Eligibility with the New Jersey Department of Education Teacher Certification Information System (TCIS). Follow this link and start by registering for a TCIS account. Step by step instructions can be found here. following registration, proceed to apply for a Certificate of Eligibility by following the on-screen prompts. The NJDOE must receive your passing Praxis score reports, Physiology and Hygiene test, and official transcripts in order to issue your Certificate of Eligibility.
You will receive an electronic copy of your issued Certificate of Eligibility from the NJDOE. Your Certificate of Eligibility allows your school to register you for your provisional teaching license which is valid for two years.
