Relay’s Teacher Residency programs are designed for educators who spend their first year working in a PK-12 school as an apprentice, gradually taking on more responsibility throughout the year as they develop the knowledge, skills, and mindsets needed to lead their own classrooms as full-time teachers in year 2 of the program. Learn more about residency requirements on page 5 of the Relay Colorado Partnership guide.
Those new to the teaching profession find Relay’s flagship Master's of Arts in Teaching program with a Teaching Residency program incredibly helpful. Not only will you learn from seasoned professionals as you complete your graduate degree coursework, you will also earn a teaching certification and have an apprentice year where you will get hands-on classroom experience. This gradual on-ramp towards teaching and managing your classroom will give you the knowledge, skills, and confidence you need to excel as a teacher of record.
In Colorado, Relay offers Master of Arts in Teaching programs and Advanced Certificate programs with the option to pursue teacher licensure, as well as a non-degree alternative teacher preparation program. See the map for our current partners and where our alumni are currently teaching!
Professor Patrick Fitzsimmons hails from the DC/Northern VA area and has been working with Relay as an Instructional Fellow the past 4 years. Professor Fitz spent his entire teaching career in San Antonio, TX where he taught all levels of high school math - from Algebra to AP Calculus - as well as a fascinating philosophy course called Theory of Knowledge. When he’s not coaching and advising teachers, you can find Professor Fitz taking photos, competing in storytelling competitions hosted by The Moth, or dancing poorly to sparkly disco-pop in his living room. Coaching teachers is his absolute favorite realm of education and is beyond excited to be working with you all this year!
