RGSV Book Week 2026: Celebrating Stories Without Borders
From 16th–20th March 2026, the RGSV Library is bringing our school community together to celebrate Book Week under the theme “Stories Without Borders.” Throughout the week, students across all year levels are engaging in a vibrant program of events, activities, and competitions designed to foster a love of reading and highlight the power of storytelling from around the world.
A highlight of the week is our special guest author, Võ Thị Xuân Hà, who is joining us for an inspiring session with our secondary students. Her visit provides a unique opportunity for students to connect with contemporary Vietnamese literature, hear firsthand about the writing process, and engage thoughtfully through questions and discussion.
Our younger learners in Early Years are participating in a joyful Mother-Tongue Story Time, where families and teachers are sharing stories in a variety of languages. This special event celebrates the linguistic and cultural diversity of our community, reinforcing the importance of storytelling as a universal human experience.
Across the week, students are also enjoying Story Time with Mr. Brendan, bringing energy and enthusiasm to shared reading experiences and helping to spark imagination in our Prep learners.
The week is building toward one of our most anticipated events — the Story Character Costume Parade & Party. Students and staff are preparing to come dressed as their favourite literary characters, ready to transform the school into a living library of stories. The creativity and excitement are already building across the campus.
In addition to these events, students are participating in a range of engaging competitions and activities. Our Daily Story Trivia is challenging students’ knowledge of books and authors, while the Bookmark Design Competition is showcasing artistic talent and creativity. Classrooms across the school are also taking part in the Door Decorating Competition, transforming learning spaces into visually stunning, story-inspired displays.
RGSV Book Week 2026 is a true celebration of reading, creativity, and community. The Library Department extends its thanks to all students, staff, and families who are contributing to making this week such a meaningful and memorable experience.
As our season of Battle of the Books is winding down, this past week has had so many special moments! Our two top two teams were selected last Thursday for the final competition at BIS, and it was a race to get all of the students and parents signed up and ready to go. But we were ready on Tuesday. Our two teams had a fantastic send-off with Mr. Brendan and Prep where over 150 students and teachers were reading out loud to them as they were walking down the hallway with their posters! It was exciting as well as important to show the students that reading should be rewarded and get just as much attention as any sport or other achievement in the school.
At BIS, the event was incredibly well organised, with our teams placing 6th and 8th out of 14. They represented the school with such kindness, responsibility and respect that all of the staff and parents were impressed and proud of our representation from RGSV.
Thursday was a recap with all students showing photos and videos from the event, as well as students receiving their participation certificates from the BIS competition. Next Thursday, our last meeting, will be a pizza party because all of the students should be rewarded for their participation and hard work, regardless of if they went to BIS.
We’re already looking forward to our next season of Battle of the Books! On behalf of the RGSV Library Department, thank you to everyone who supported in any way this season. Whether you were on staff making sure students made it to our ECA, or were at home helping your child read and become an expert in their assigned books, it all made a difference and added up to a success with happy students :-)
