SMART Goal Option:
After each reading, I will connect my own knowledge to the text by writing/speaking using sentence frames like, "This relates to…" or "When I read the text, it makes me think of..."

I will write at least three sentence types (simple, compound, complex, interrupter) to summarize my daily reading.
I will identify impactful sentences in the text. I will identify the sentence type and explain why these are impactful in my writing/speaking.

Mental Models/Reasoning
Mental Models/Reasoning
Organize and connect ideas (e.g., sequence, cause/effect, compare/contrast, hierarchy) while reading to deepen your understanding.
SMART Goal Option:
Each week, I will complete a mental model and use the language associated with that model to shows relationships (e.g., cause/effect or compare/contrast) between characters or events.
I will use transition words appropriate to my English level (initially, because, however, as a result, hence) in my notes and summaries to show how ideas connect.
Sentence Frame:
My goal is to strengthen my ability to form mental models by **__________,** so I can understand how ideas and events connect in the story.
