The Northeast Texas Career Alliance is an independent partnership of five districts in the Northeast Texas area that have entered an agreement with Northeast Texas Community college to offer innovative career and technical education programming to students in their districts.
NTCA is a independent partnership of five school districts: Chapel Hill I.S.D., Daingerfield-Lone Star I.S.D., Harts Bluff I.S.D., Hughes Springs I.S.D., and Pewitt C.I.S.D. Other partners with NTCA are Northeast Texas Community College, Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas, and Region 8 Education Service Center.
Northeast Texas Career Alliance
The three programs selected for NTCA implementation are based on a workforce landscape analysis. All three program areas are identified as leading to occupations that are considered to be high wage and high demand in our WDA. In addition, all three programs are well developed programs at Northeast Texas Community college but are programs not yet available in this same way for students at the participating high schools.
All incoming 9th grade students are eligible to participate in the NTCA programs, if interested. Students should be prepared for the rigor of college-level work and have an interest in pursuing a career in their NTCA pathway. Each pathway will have opportunities for student work-based learning opportunities. Students should understand that when on-site at a workplace, they are representatives of their school districts and the NTCA program.
Work-based learning experiences exist along a continuum of activities. The most basic of those activities are considered to be "learning about work". In these types of activities, students learn what jobs are available, what requirements they should meet to hold those jobs, and get a chance to explore a variety of careers. These types of activities are usually things like industry tours or listening to career speakers. From there, students will "learn through work". These are more in depth experiences and may include job shadowing or simulated workplaces at the school. The last part of the continuum is "learning at work" where students have immersive experiences as interns or other placement related opportunities.
If you are a student or parent, contact your local school's high school counselor. They will have materials available for you to review related to NTCA programming. If you are a business or industry representative interested in partnering with NTCA for work-based learning experiences, contact Josh Stegall at Region 8 ESC by emailing jstegall@reg8.net.
