In our classroom curriculum, we use children’s literature as an anchor for monthly themes. We provide direct instruction, discovery learning opportunities and child-centered activities which are guided by the  CT Early Learning Developmental Standards and promote the development of your child’s cognitive, language, physical, social, academic and self-help skills.

Circle Time

An important aspect of our day is circle time. During this time, preschoolers learn to come together as a community. They learn to attend, listen and share their thoughts and ideas. Our Greeting Circle incorporates early academic skills in daily routines such as; taking attendance,"Kiddie Count" and "Name Games", observing, reporting and charting the weather "Weather Watcher".  Daily read alouds  support active participation from the students with props, puppets, movements and verbal responses.  Concept lessons are incorporated in our learning circles and foster development of early  literacy, math and critical thinking skills.  "Hands on" structured activities. such as art projects, cooking, construction activities, science experiments and turn-taking games are presented daily.

Learning Centers

Tour Our Classroom.m4v

Every day we have "center time". These centers are designed to give children hands on experiences through self-directed play, structured lessons, activities and collaboration. We have six main center areas in the classroom:

Materials and activities in these areas rotate on a weekly basis or by child interest and are often related to our monthly theme. These learning experiences offer a balance of teacher directed and child led activities intended to foster development in literacy, communication and social skills, early math and science concepts, fine motor skills and creativity.

Each month your child will be bringing home a storyboard creation related to a current story. The goal of the storyboard is to provide a method for your child to retell the story to you, and to work on a myriad of development skills. Our little ones are quite proud to share these projects with you!  Your familiarity with the story is helpful in engaging and supporting them with this activity. All the books on our book list can be taken out of the library, available on utube and amazon or borrowed from the classroom. Reading with your child is one of the best things you can do promote literacy to help with school success!
