Chester Elementary Art Education Philosophy

Art education develops critical, creative, and divergent problem solvers through the study of artistic creation, presentation, personal response, and cultural connections. Our visual arts program exposes students to a variety of art concepts, genres, artists mediums, skills, techniques and a myriad of opportunities to problem solve, think critically and creatively. Art education provides communication skills and experiences in understanding one’s self and others. These experiences cultivate an appreciation of the visual arts, and provide students with the tools they need to express their ideas visually. We empower all students to see themselves as capable of achievement in visual arts.

Our elementary art program is based on a sequential building of artistic processes and experiences developed with knowledge of State and National Standards in visual arts. Students receive art instruction once on a four-day rotation for 45 minutes.
