Sal Cassaro played High School football at Capistrano Valley HS in Southern California under Head coach Dick Enright, the former Oregon Ducks Head Coach. After High School he was recruited to play for the University of Utah under Head Coach Jim Fossil, former New York Giants Head Coach. He learned a lot about the game of football and X's and O's from all the talented coaches he played for over the years, Coach Cassaro now teaches those skills to the Ravens players. One of his most influential coaches was Coach Larry Gelwix. While playing for the Utes, he had the opportunity to play for his Highland Allblacks Rugby team; going on to win a National Championship with a great group of young men. The Highland Allblacks went on to win 23 consecutive championships. Coach Gelwix instilled the importance of personal character, integrity, leadership, commitment, and accountability to one another. He was a gifted culture builder, which related no matter the sport Coach Cassaro was coaching, where he strives to instill the same values in all of his players.
Coach Cassaro considers himself fortunate to have great coaches over the years and believes it is important to give back. Following college, he began coaching at CVHS before moving to Oregon in 1996. Since then, he has served as a Head Coach, Coordinator, and Assistant in the sport of football, track & field, and baseball.
Married 26 years to his wife Heather; they have two daughters, Sierra, and Sydney. Sal has lived in Redmond for 29 years working as a teacher and coach at RHS for 12 years before becoming an administrator and changing districts.
