We have had a busy two weeks!  Many of our 4th and 5th grade students competed in "Battle of the Books" - thanks to Mrs. Halvorsen for providing this opportunity.  Pizza Co donated ice cream coupons for the winning team. We celebrated 42 BUGS (4th and 5th grade students who maintained or raised their grades from 2nd to 3rd quarter), thanks to Pat Corbe for providing the pizza party!  RLACF brought MT Shakes to Mountain View for the 2nd year and students enjoyed learning about performing arts. Tippet Rise continues to support Mountain View by teaching art classes monthly. Also- during the month of April classes are working toward an ice cream party by participating in the "I-Ready for Ice Cream Challenge."  Each student needs to have 30 minutes of on-task activity on My Path which is differentiated to meet students at their level.  We are celebrating individuals weekly  for going above and beyond in their on-task time.

COLD weather means time for crafts and hot coco.

End of the Quarter!

Hard to believe we have finished half the year!  Our students have been working hard and making great growth.  This past week most students took their 2nd Iready diagnostic which allows us to reflect on individual student growth.

In Math our students went from 12% at or above grade level to 43% at or above.  Students nearing grade level went from 67% to 50%.  Our students who are identified as needing additional intensive support went from 20% to 7%.

In Reading our students went from 29% at or above grade level to 63% at or above. Students nearing grade level went from 56% to 33%.  Our students who are identified as needing additional intensive support went from 15% to 4%.

I am so proud of our staff and students for putting forth such great effort which is reflected in student academic growth.

Congratulations to Parker Winning for taking second place in the boys 8-9 year old division at the Beartooth Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot Competition! Should the first place winner not be able to attend the District Competition in January, the second place winner will take that place!

Please remind your children the importance of using cross-walks!  It is very hard for cars on the road to see students who jump out between parked cars into the road.

Beartooth Recreational Trails Association is holding the annual Ski swap and youth XC ski rentals this Saturday November 17th at the Civic Center. This is a great way to trade out boots, jackets and gear up for growing kids!

Sale Time is Saturday 11/18 11:00am- 1:00pm. More information about BRTA or details about ski rentals and consignment can be found on the Beartooth Recreational Trails Association Facebook page or website.

Academic Update: Thank you for coming to Parent Teacher Conferences.  During conferences you received a few handouts, providing a snapshot on your individual child's progress. One handout was your child's  IReady diagnostic, which  was taken during the 1st full week of school and provided a starting data point for math and reading.  IReady replaced Aimsweb as our progress monitoring tool and is also our math curriculum.  This is beneficial as our data directly correlates to our curriculum.  As this was the students first time taking this diagnostic with exposure to new vocabulary and a new testing format, we are excited to see growth at our mid year assessment in January.

Mountain View students and staff would like to thank our Veterans for their service.

2nd grade learned about Veterans Day then wrote thank you cards/art projects and wrote about what the day means.

1st grade learned a Veterans Day Poem, talked about the different branches and made cards.

Our first grade classes have been learning about local history and pictographs.  Students took advantage of the nice weather to visit Pictograph Cave State Park.  Our K-1 classes thoroughly enjoyed the tumbling unit in PE.

Planned Absence

If you have a trip planned and your child will be gone for more than two days, this will require a planned absence. Planned absence forms can be found at the office and will need to be filled out one week prior to your trip. Once the form is filled out, it needs to be turned into the office where it will then be given to the teacher to fill in the homework portion.

If your child will be gone for two days or less, this will not be considered a planned absence.

Welcome Back

Back to school means back to lunch with 100 students! This year we have combined lunches to be k,1, 2 and 3,4,5.  This allows the students more time to eat which is awesome but adds another class to the cafeteria during lunch.

Lunch can become chaotic if we don't work as a team to use our whisper voices, stay in our seats (unless getting more food), and being in control of our bodies (not riding a bull in the cafeteria or beating the table with our silverware).

Please review these expectations with your child.  I want the lunchroom to be a relaxing environment for everyone.

Thank you

J Boyd
