Dear Parent and Community Members,
On behalf of our entire staff, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for the incredible support, kindness, and recognition you showed us during Teacher Appreciation Week. Your thoughtful gestures, generous treats, encouraging notes, and uplifting words reminded us how deeply valued our work is and how strong our school community truly is.

Week of April 28, 2025
Bike Rodeo/ Summer Safety Day is right around the corner on May 9th. All students should plan to bring their BIKES AND HELMETS to school that Friday morning. We will have fun skills courses and the local safety crews to visit with. This is an outdoor event so students should dress in warm/cool, bicycle worthy clothing and footwear. If we get exceptionally lousy weather, there is a rain date set for Friday the 16th.
If you do not have a bicycle, a scooter can be used. Also there is a new Community Bike Shop set up upstairs in the Old Roosevelt where you can tune up a bike with a bit of help, shared tools and basic supplies. The Community Bike Shop is free and open this Saturday 9-11 and Tuesdays 9am-12-pm and Thursdays 5pm-7pm. They may also be able to find a bike for students in need. Find them on Facebook @redlodgebikecenter
Please park your bikes at the designated racks on Friday morning 5/9
Kindergarten and First grade on the West side by the drop off gate.
Second and Third grades on the East side next to the office door.
Fourth and Fifth grades East side near the cafeteria outside of Ms. Hatten’s window (do not block that driveway).
We are look forward to a fun day with you all,

Dear Students,
Our Elementary Spring Concert theme is “Go Outside and Play: Songs of Play, Imagination, and Nature.”
The K-5 Spring Concert is Wednesday, May 14th at 9 am and 1pm in the Red Lodge Civic Center.
Please dress nicely for the concert. Festive Spring attire is welcome! We want to make ourselves and our audience feel good.
We want students to come dressed up more than usual because this is a performance where we are giving a gift to our community! Dresses, skirts, collared shirts, sweaters, and nice pants are all acceptable. We want to try to avoid sweatpants, athletic apparel, clothing with holes, and t-shirts.
We don’t want our attire to take the focus away from the music, so please ask if you have questions about what is or isn’t appropriate attire.
Please take time to memorize and practice your songs. Have fun singing to yourself/dog/cat/parents/spider in the corner.
Let’s put on an awesome show!
Best,
Mr. Burdick and Mr. Schneider

Dear Parents,
During pick-up and drop-off please be sure to keep traffic moving. This is becoming more of an issue on the west playground. We are having cars just parked and idling for an extended period of time. In the cold weather this is of greater concern as pollutants hang in the air longer which our club-line students then have to breath in. For more information on the benefits of reducing idling please visit https://www.epa.gov/schools/idle-free-schools-toolkit-healthy-school-environment.

Our 2024 Mountain View Elementary Winter Concert, “Songs and Stories for Snowy Days,” will be performed on Wednesday, December 18th at 9 am and 1pm in the Red Lodge Civic Center. We have a fun, festive show planned and there are a few ways you can help:
Help your student to dress nicely—festive holiday attire.
Santa hats, festive ties/scarves, and other splashes of color are acceptable. Please avoid things that light up/flash and things that make noise.
We don’t want our attire to take the focus away from the music, so please ask if you have questions about what is or isn’t appropriate attire.
Volunteer to help with the concert. You can sign up to volunteer here:

Dear Families,
You will be getting your child's report card in their Friday Folder. This is our first report card utilizing Standard Based Grading. Please remember- you will likely see many E's (emerging) and D's (developing) as this is our first quarter and the students first introduction to the grade-level standard. Students will be emerging and developing in their ability to understand and apply this standard. This is not a reflection of their work completed; their homework could consistently be getting stars, smiley face, and 100%. This shows they are on track and doing great toward mastery of the standard (working toward that proficient or advanced). You will see homework success reflected in the grade under Habits of Success.
Also- please be sure to return envelope that report cards are sent home in.
Thanks!

Please don't send EasyMac or similar items for lunch. These items take such a long time in the microwave, especially if you aren't first in line, greatly reducing the amount of time the student has to eat.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I am excited to announce that our pilot Gifted and Talented After-School STEAM program has been approved by the school board.
Students were selected based on their fall Iready Math Diagnostic results. Any 2nd or 3rd grade student who scored in the highest grouping will be invited to participate. Students will have the opportunity to join after each diagnostic if they score in the highest grouping.
Again, this is a pilot project where we are woking out the kinks. Upon its success, we will hopefully expand. The project is possible thanks to parent volunteers.

Parents,

Key Components of Standard Based Grading:
Standard Based Grading is based on demonstration of mastery of standards.
At the beginning of a unit (introduction of a standard) a student will likely be emerging (E) in their understanding and application of the standard. As the unit progresses a student will likely move from Emerging to Developing (D) then Proficient (P).
Standard Based Grading provides a more detailed insight into your child's progress. You may see that your child has developed mastery of geometry but is developing in their application of measurement and data.
You may see fewer grades being posted. Students have daily practice towards mastery but only items meant to measure student mastery are recorded.
Reminder our Standard Based Grading scale is: E (emerging), D (developing), P (proficient), and A (advanced).
Not every standard will be assessed every quarter.
If you would like more information please watch the tutorial on Red Lodge Schools Facebook page.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
There have been a few questions regarding lunchtime. This year we went back to the same lunch routine we had 2 years ago. Last year we tried to group three grades so that we had two lunches. Ultimately, this was not the best process as there were too many students in the lunchroom at one time and it took too long to get through the lunch line. Last year classes had 30 minutes to eat. This year students have 20- 25 minutes but there are 40 fewer students in the cafeteria at once. The first few weeks of lunch feels very rushed as we get back in the routine but now that everyone has the "system" down it is efficient. We are working hard to remind our students to chat a little less and eat a little more and they are getting it down! We will continue to assess and adjust as necessary.
Thank you,
JB

If you are wanting to/planning on volunteering in the classroom this school year you MUST go get finger prints done BEFORE you will be allowed to volunteer. Please come into the middle school as soon as possible to see our Business Manager, Brande, to get the consent forms/turn in your fingerprints. If you go to the courthouse to get fingerprinted and mention they are for the school there will be no cost to you. If you do end up paying to get them done you can be reimbursed by the school.
Please don't send EasyMac or similar items for lunch. These items take such a long time in the microwave, especially if you aren't first in line, greatly reducing the amount of time the student has to eat.
As we wrap up our 2nd (short) week we have been working with the students on the importance of being kind and keeping their hands and feet to themselves. Our littles (K-2) have needed lots of reminders and redirection in this area. Please take a moment to talk with your child, reminding them to keep their hands and feet to themselves even while they are playing a game.

Dear Mountain View Parents, Guardians, and Students-
A few updates and reminders as we kick off the 2024-2025 school year.
Open House is Monday the 26th from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.
Please join me on Facebook Live for a back to school story on Tuesday the 27th at 7:00. https://www.facebook.com/redlodgeschools/
We are excited to have a few new members join our team! Mrs. Hall will be serving as K-8 title, Miss. Hernandez will be teaching first, Mrs. King will be teaching kindergarten, and Mrs. Ripley will be teaching 4/5 ELA. Joining our paraprofessional staff will be Mr. Houston.
This year the 4th and 5th grade will be doing a 3 way rotation. Mrs. Halvorsen will teach math to 4th/5th, Miss. Hatten will teach history and science to 4th/5th, and Mrs. Ripley will teach ELA to 4th/5th. Each student will be assigned a homeroom teacher; this was listed on their postcard that was mailed home last week. Fifth grade currently has one homeroom teacher, Mrs. Ripley.
We currently are without a K-8 counselor. We are continuing to look to fill this position. Please encourage students to talk to their classroom teacher, a trusted adult, or myself if an issue arises.
Sincerely,
JBoyd

Dear Mountain View Parents, Guardians, and Students:
I hope you had a fantastic summer! It is hard to believe that it is coming to an end. I am looking forward to reconnecting and/or meeting all of you and serving as your principal.
Please join us for our Back to School Night on 26th of August from 5:00 to 6:00PM. Postcards announcing your child's teacher for the upcoming grade will be mailed Thursday the 15th.
My door is always open; I welcome your feedback and input on your child’s educational success, how we can continue to grow and thrive, and how we as a team can contribute to these goals. It is through partnership that your child will thrive academically and socially.
We ask that each student is prepared to learn every day; the following principles will help set us up for success:
Follow the Path of the Ram by: being safe, persevering, acting with integrity, be respectful, and be responsible.
Come to school on time, everyday! Instruction Tuesday through Friday begins for K-3 at 8:15 and at 8:10 for 4-5. On Mondays we have a late start, instruction begins at 9:00 for everyone. Bus pick up time on Monday is at regular time. Students are welcome from 8:00 to 9:00 on Monday.
Morning supervision and breakfast will be available at 7:50.
School is out for K-5 at 3:25
Please review the handbook with your child so he or she understands the expectations
and can ask questions if they arise.
