On this page you will find the Nuts and Bolts of my expectations and how grades are given on different assignments.
Phones need to be placed in the lock box at the beginning of class. Use the slot number associated with the number on your desk.
Chromebooks: The first period class will get the Chromebooks out. Please choose the Chromebook associated with the number on your desk. I will put the Chromebooks away at the end of the day.
Gradebook: Generally, I will assign between 2000-2500 points during a semester. This seems like a lot; however, I have found that this gives an accurate measurement of your English Language Arts skill sets and students being happy with their grade. So, one assignment in this class will not tank your grade. Assignments are weighted using points. So, a test will be worth 200-300 points while a homework assignment might only be worth 15-25 points.
Vocabulary
Each week we will complete a vocabulary unit of 20 words. I will hand out a packet on Monday and take a quiz on Friday. We will complete different sections of the packet each day. Generally the schedule is as follows:
Monday = Words in Context and Matching words with Definitions
Tuesday = Sentence Check 1
Wednesday = Sentence Check 2
Thursday = Final Check
Friday = Quiz
Scoring
Vocab Packet = 20 points
Vocab Quiz = 40 points
IXL
Each week I will assign between 2 and 3 IXL Skills to work on. I will put the link on the class Planbook page. Generally, I put the links on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
You have all week to work on your IXL skills.They are not due until Monday of the following week. So, if you do not finish them in class, you have all week to finish them.
Scoring
Each IXL Skill is worth 10 points. I use your Smart Score to determine your grade; however, if you get a smart score of 100, I will give you 3 points of extra credit. So, you will get 13 out of 10. Also, I round up, so if your Smart Score is 89 then you will get 9 out of 10.
Quill
We will use Quill to reinforce our grammar and mechanics lessons discussed in class.
Scoring
Each Quill is worth 5 points. When you complete your Quill assignnment, it will give you either a Green, Yellow, or Red.
Green = 5/5 points
Yellow = 4/5 points
Red = 3/5 points
Yes, you can redo your Quill assignments to get a better score.
Homework
I have a homework turn in box at the front of the classroom glued to the left side of the whiteboard. Please turn all homework here. Please, do not set it on my desk.
I accept late work for up to 80% of the original grade. If you complete an online assignment, you need to email me and let me know you turned it in.
