The management of the classroom is based on Positive Behavior Supports. Children are recognized for behaviors that follow the Path of the Ram SPIRR expectations. These include: safety, perseverance, integrity, respect, and responsibility. Within the classroom, children can receive a Super Ram (school-wide). The focus of the class expectations is for us to be a community. Students will be encouraged to become independent thinkers and problem solvers. I use the 2nd Step Social Emotional curriculum to help students learn how to take care of each other, problem-solve, self-regulate in different situations, and develop empathy for others. I also use mindfulness to help students work on their breathing, focus on being present, and concentrate on how they are feeling.
Many of the activities and lessons taught in the classroom follow the curriculum set by the district. However, I strive to implement project-based learning into much of their day-to-day activities. This way of teaching and learning allows the children to explore, investigate, think critically, work together, and ask questions. At the same time, the teacher plays a role of guiding and assisting in their learning. Children are then able to have a more real-world connection to what is being taught in the classroom.
Things to remember throughout the year:
*Please check your child’s backpack every day.
*Children are responsible for checking their backpacks when they get to school (If you send a note/paperwork/lunch, remind them to get it out and bring it to me). Lunch money needs to be labeled with your child’s name in a baggie or envelope.
*Homework is sent home if it is not completed during the day. They will be given a folder where their homework will be stored. Homework needs to be returned the next day unless told.
*Please READ, READ, READ, and READ some more with your child.
*The best form of communication with me is through emails or Seesaw. I will send out updates and information to remember through Seesaw.
*Lesson plans and current classroom topics can be accessed through my webpage on the Red Lodge Schools website. Remember, activities or lessons are subject to change throughout the week. This is an excellent way to start a conversation about their activities in school.
* Seesaw app- this is an online digital documentation app for the classroom. Children will be able to access Chromebooks, complete assignments, and participate in activities throughout the week that are geared towards what is being taught in school. Along with children’s work, this is my primary communication tool with families regarding homework, spelling words, etc. Families can message me as well - I will respond any time from 7 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday. If a family member sends a message over break, it may take longer to answer back – please remember I am on break too.
