Festivals & Competitions

The California State Thespian Festival is the state's largest theatre education event, bringing together thousands of students for performances, workshops, college auditions, scholarships, and individual events in acting, musical theatre, technical theatre, and more. All BTC theatre students in good standing with the department are eligible to sign up to attend.

Each fall, CETA sends adjudicators to attend productions in four Southern California regions. The top-ranked production in each region is invited to remount its show in its entirety as a Mainstage Performance at the annual CETA High School Theatre Festival, held each year over Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend. Regional runners-up (2nd and 3rd place) are invited to perform a 10-minute cutting of their production. The festival also features workshops, technical theatre events, and opportunities for students to learn from college faculty and theatre professionals.

The Drama Teachers Association of Southern California (DTASC) Festival is a one-day event where students perform scenes, monologues, and present technical theatre projects and receive feedback from theatre professionals. Past winners include: America Ferrera, Shailene Woodley, Sally Field, Cuba Gooding Jr., Jason Bateman and Val Kilmer.

The festival strives to be an opportunity for students to grow as a theatre artists. The festival provides a one day experience for students to gain feedback from professional judges. RoleAbout also encourages celebrating all performers and designers in all competition realms.  The festival strives to provide quality feedback, clear expectations, and educational opportunities for all students to grow as artists.

The Cal State San Bernardino Theatre Festival gives high school students the opportunity to perform, receive adjudication from theatre professionals, attend educational workshops, and explore a local collegiate theatre program.
