AVID: Advancement via Individual Determination. AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society.
Program Components
Students receive academic instruction in WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) and develop College and Career Readiness Skills.
Students receive academic support from college tutors and peers through Collaborative Study Groups and Tutorials.
Students engage in motivational activities such as team building, community service, and field trips.
Students receive additional support from the AVID teacher and AVID Counselor.
Elective Class Focus
Students will engage with and apply WICOR Strategies (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading), designed to enhance academic achievement in core subjects and equip students with the skills necessary for college readiness. Students will focus on developing skills for academic success, such as note-taking, studying, organization, and time management. Classroom lessons will consist of Financial Literacy, Career Planning, Soft Skills, Job Skills, Public Speaking, College Research, College Application Process, Financial Aid Process, and Scholarship applications.
