Curriculum overview
Science provides the foundations for understanding our world. Through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics, Science has changed our lives and is vital to our world’s future prosperity.
All students should be taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. Through building up a body of knowledge and concepts, students should be encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena.
hey should be encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes – skills essential for life-long learning.

Teaching and assessment at KS3
All students will follow the same curriculum with core learning objectives for each topic and extension tasks.

Working towards
Tasks involving the recall of factual information - E.g what organelles are in a plant cell?
Working at
Tasks involving manipulation of information - E.g why do plants cells have chloroplasts but not animal cells?
Greater depth
Tasks involving analysis and interpretation - E.g Using your knowledge of cells justify what type of cell you are observing under the microscope
This principle is applied to all assessments and some homelearning tasks. Student progress is monitored in each aspect and specific feedback can be used to develop overall progress in the subject.
