WHAT IS A GCSE - A General Certificate of Secondary Education, studied in Years 10–11, usually assessed through exams and coursework, and forms the foundation for further study or career paths.
WHAT IS A BTECH? - A practical, vocational qualification assessed mainly through coursework and projects, helping students gain skills for careers, apprenticeships, or further study.
IS A BTECH WORTH LESS THAN A GCSE - Neither is better; it depends on the student’s learning style, interests, and future plans
WILL ALL COLLEGES ACCEPT BTECH QUALIFICATIONS - It’s worth checking the entry requirements for each college course, as some colleges may not count BTEC qualifications towards their general entry requirements. Knowing this early can help you plan your subject choices and career pathway.
As parents, you may be familiar with the old letter grades (A–G). GCSEs are now graded 9–1, with 9 being the highest. This new system gives more detail at the top end and helps show exactly how well a student has done
Post‑16 options let students choose the next step after Year 11, including A‑Levels, vocational courses like BTECs, or apprenticeships, helping them prepare for further study, training, or a career
