REDEEMER LUTHERAN SCHOOL
EARLY CHILDHOOD PHILOSOPHY
Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” 1 Timothy 2:3-4 “This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
Children live in a changing and sometimes uncertain world. It is our goal that the children entrusted to our care shall, through their school experiences, know Jesus as their Savior and find comfort, security, and the blessed assurance of eternal life provided only through Him. Their school experiences shall help them grow to become future leaders for our schools, churches and communities.
1 Peter 4:10 “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace”
A Christian school should provide both an environment and a curriculum conducive to effective learning. Redeemer Lutheran School promotes spiritual, social, emotional, creative, cognitive and physical development of young children in a developmentally appropriate approach through a play based learning environment. Through play children learn social and academic skills and are encouraged to explore and discover God’s world using their individual abilities, talents, and five senses. Through various centers, and small and large group instruction, children construct knowledge in hands-on concrete experiences.
Deuteronomy 6:7 “Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” Mark 10:14 "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
Parents and teachers play an important role in the children’s educational experience and we strive to create a strong home-school relationship. In our early childhood classrooms, their education is also enhanced through creative arts, music and movement, dramatic play, and gross motor experiences. Research from James Heckman has shown that a high quality preschool program centered on the developmental needs of children will have long term benefits for children. (Heckman 2000, pg. 50) Redeemer’s early childhood center must be committed to providing children with Christ-centered learning in a safe environment. Our teachers are highly qualified and provide children a curriculum that meets Early Childhood Educational Standards.
