Welcome to Mrs. Z's Classroom

Name: Mrs. Erika Zajdel

2023-2024 Courses: Precalculus, Algebra 2, 8th Grade Algebra 1 and Geometry

Family: I have been married to husband, Daniel, since 1980.  We raised three wonderful sons whom we home schooled from K-12.  We are now enjoying the addition of our amazing daughters-in-law and the blessing of 8 grandchildren. 😊

Hobbies: Besides spending time with family, I am a choir member, an AWANA helper, and nursery worker at First Evangelical Free Church in McKeesport.  I also enjoy reading, Sudoku, and traveling whenever and wherever possible.

Religious Background: I became a believer in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior in 1974, despite having attended church most of my life!  That was when I accepted by faith the things I had begun questioning as a teen. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Eph. 2:8-10)  I met my husband at the church in which I was baptized, so we have a marriage built on our mutual faith.  We used Proverbs 3:5-6 on our wedding announcements - “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.”  I believe God has led me to be a teacher at Redeemer Lutheran School.

Educational Background: I graduated from Churchill Area High School, and received my BS in Secondary Math Education from the University of Pittsburgh. I taught at several local schools before “retiring” to home school, teach classes at a home school co-op, and teach classes for Carnegie Mellon University’s gifted program, C-MITES. Thankfully, I maintained my teaching credentials with continuing education, which allowed me to be ready to accept this job at RLS!

Goal:  As a teacher at Redeemer Lutheran School, it is my goal to teach my students the material for which I am responsible, along with the tools to help them be successful in other areas of life. Most importantly, I desire to model my faith in the one true God, who is the the foundation of all learning and life. I enjoy working with the administration, school staff, and parents, to seek the best ways to accomplish our mutual goals for the students we serve and seek to nurture.  If you would like to discuss any matter regarding your child(ren) or my classes, please do not hesitate to contact me by email or phone.

In Christ,

Erika Zajdel
