This fee supports screening, testing, processing, storage, and distribution to ensure safe blood for patients. Donors give blood voluntarily without direct compensation. The fee helps maintain quality, safety, and infrastructure for blood supply. 

Here's how the Blood Processing Fee typically works:

• Donor Donation: When an individual donates blood at a Philippine Red Cross blood donation center or during a mobile blood donation event, they do so voluntarily and without any direct financial compensation.

• Blood Collection: The donated blood is collected and then transported to a blood processing and testing facility operated by the Philippine Red Cross.

• Processing and Testing: At the processing and testing facility, the donated blood undergoes a series of critical steps. These include blood typing, screening for infectious diseases (such as HIV, hepatitis, and syphilis), and ensuring its compatibility with potential recipients.

• Blood Components: In many cases, donated whole blood is separated into various blood components like red blood cells, plasma, and platelets, which can be used for specific medical purposes. This separation process requires specialized equipment and expertise.

• Storage and Distribution: Once processed and tested, the blood or its components are safely stored under controlled conditions until they are needed. The Philippine Red Cross maintains a network of blood banks and distribution centers to ensure the timely availability of blood products to hospitals and healthcare facilities across the country.

• Blood Processing Fee: To offset the costs incurred in the process mentioned above, the Philippine Red Cross may charge a Blood Processing Fee. In the Philippine Red Cross, a "Blood Request" refers to the process of requesting blood or blood products for a patient in need of a transfusion. This service is essential for individuals who require blood due to medical conditions, surgeries, accidents, or other emergencies. 

How to Request Blood from the Philippine Red Cross:

• Contact the Nearest Blood Service Facility: To initiate a blood request, the first step is to contact the nearest Philippine Red Cross Blood Service Facility or Blood Service Unit. These facilities are often located in major hospitals or regional centers.

• Provide Patient Information: When you contact the Red Cross, you will need to provide detailed information about the patient in need, including their name, age, medical condition, and the type and quantity of blood or blood components required. This information is crucial for determining the compatibility and urgency of the request.

• Medical Documentation: The healthcare provider treating the patient may also be required to provide medical documentation supporting the need for a blood transfusion. This documentation helps ensure that the transfusion is medically necessary and appropriate. (ex. Blood request form)

• Blood Compatibility Testing: Once the request is received, the Red Cross will check its blood inventory to see if the requested blood type and components are available. If they are, the blood will be prepared for transfusion. If not, efforts will be made by Philippine Red Cross to source the required blood from other PRC Blood banks nearby.

• Coordination and Delivery: The Philippine Red Cross will coordinate the delivery of the requested blood to the healthcare facility where the patient is receiving treatment. This may involve a bloodmobile or courier service to ensure the timely and safe transportation of the blood.

• Transfusion: Upon delivery, the blood is transfused to the patient by trained medical professionals following strict safety protocols.
