Inspirational Quote of the Day: “Practice isn’t the thing you do once you’re good. It’s the thing you do that makes you good.”– Malcolm Gladwell

Class,

Today I am absent. Your behavior is a reflection of yourself, family and Brandywine Springs School. My expectation for the substitute is that they will write me a note letting me know about your behavior. Please let me know if you have any problems with the assignment.(peter.kelly@redclay.k12.de.us) If you finish early, please let the substitute know so that you can present your current event  outloud to the class.

1. Please allow enough time for the substitute to take attendance

2. Complete a current event of your choosing (Check Schoology)

If you have trouble finding one, try this-

Pizza

Sandy

3. Submit current event form and screenshot the screen after and submit this to schoology. (graded)

4. If you finish before the end of the class, tell the substitute so that you can present your current event outloud in front of the class (not graded)

In addition to the current event, you should also try doing the daily

Vocabulary Escape Room Race

Energy Expo- Friday January 12

Expo information- 8:30-9:45 BSS Cafeteria

It is set up with 6 stations that students will rotate through in groups of 17-18 students. [Go to Schoology for Groups] Graded worksheets will be provided for students to complete.

Station A- What is Electricity? How do we use energy in our school?

Station B- How do we make electricity? What are the impacts of fossil fuel use on our environment?

Stations C-F How do we reduce air pollution from our energy use?

C) Conserve- Use less

D) Go Energy Efficient

E) Use Cleaner fuels:

i. Solar

ii. Wind

iii. Electric Cars

iv. Nuclear Energy

F ) The future: Hydrogen, wave energy, hydrogen fuel cells, carbon capture.

Energy Guidebook for Students

Objective:  7.2 Lesson 4 How much of each reactant should we include in our homemade flameless heater?

Standards:

MS-PS1-6:

Undertake a design project to construct, test, and modify a device that either releases or absorbs thermal energy by chemical processes.

MS-ETS1-2:

Evaluate competing design solutions using a systematic process to determine how well they meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.

MS-ETS1-3:

Analyze data from tests to determine similarities and differences among several design solutions to identify the best characteristics of each that can be combined into a new solution to better meet the criteria for success.

MS-ETS1-4:

Develop a model to generate data for iterative testing and modification of a proposed object, tool, or process such that an optimal design can be achieved.

Warm-Up: Take 5 Warm-up

To Do List:

1. NAVIGATION

2. PLAN FOR PROPORTION OF REACTANTS INVESTIGATION

Discuss the amounts of reactants to test and what data to collect. Evaluate and discuss the investigation procedure.

3.CONDUCT PROPORTION OF REACTANTS INVESTIGATION

Different groups test different proportions of reactants and record data in their science notebooks.

4. REFLECT ON TYPES OF INSTRUCTIONS

Conduct an exit ticket about what makes good instructions.
