Class Description:

American Civics is a required semester course designed to teach students about the development of our government and its impact on our nation today. Students will learn about the events leading up to the writing of the Declaration of Independence and the ratification of the Constitution. Additionally, this course covers Illinois state government, the Illinois Constitution, and the proper use of the American flag. Furthermore, students will learn the significance of the American electoral process. Students must pass this class, the US Constitution, the Illinois Constitution test, and the flag code test in order to graduate.

VIDEOS

Occasionally, throughout the semester, I incorporate the use of movies into our lessons. There will be assignments associated with the videos. It is important that you actively watch the video to complete the assignment. I will not wake you.

FINAL EXAM

Exam is cumulative – everything that we cover in the semester is fair game for the exam. Red Bud High School policies will be followed to determine if the student’s exemption status.

ABSENCES

  • It is your responsibility to check Google Classroom to find out what you missed during your absence.

  • Special arrangements will be made for prolonged absences

  • If you miss a test, you must schedule an appropriate time to make it up. Due to my high school schedule, quizzes and tests must be made up either at lunch or after school.

  • Homework is due the first day back if due the day you were absent.

  • Missed work must be turned in by the due date or it will result in a zero

  • Students with unexcused absences will receive a zero for any daily assignments.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES

  • Cell phones must be turned off upon entering the room

  • Be in your seat and ready when the bell rings

  • I will dismiss you, NOT the bell. DO NOT line up at the door. Stay in your seat until dismissed.

  • Raise your hand when you have something to say. Wait to be called on before speaking.

  • When someone is talking, be respectful and wait your turn.

  • Have all necessary materials for class.

  • Be courteous and respectful to everyone. Teasing, name-calling, or any other form of verbal abuse will be tolerated.

  • All rules in the student handbook will be followed

CONSEQUENCES

  • Verbal warning

  • Loss of participation points

  • Call parents

  • Removal from class

HOMEWORK POLICIES

  • All students are required to do all assigned work for the class

  • No late assignments NO EXCEPTIONS.

  • CHEATING is unacceptable on any work or tests and will NOT be tolerated! This includes copying, plagiarism, looking off others work, and so forth. This action will result in a ZERO.
