Exploring the KL Krash Pad Initiative: A Collaborative Effort by Yayasan Chow Kit
23 May 2024, Kuala Lumpur - Yayasan Chow Kit, KL Krash Pad. The day began at 9am as the team from Matrix Connexion (MatrixC) arrived at the venue to set up banners, tables, and chairs for the students' comfort and convenience. With the growing presence of MatrixC staff, preparations were made to distribute Chromebooks equitably among the students within the KL Crash Pad class venue.
By 9:30 am, the entire MatrixC staff, in addition to the marketing team, had assembled at KL Krash Pad. As the school students gathered outside the main learning room, all MatrixC employees assisted in distributing Chromebooks to each student. Some students required assistance with configuring their devices, charging them, or resolving technical issues before the commencement of the main event.
At 10am, the event commenced with MatrixC Human Resources employee Adi serving as the emcee. Adi energised both the students and all MatrixC staff members, including Chief Executive Officer Sean Tay, with a game called “Karipap.” In this game, participants were required to clench one hand into a fist and leave the other open like a claw, with one player attempting to catch the other's hand upon hearing the word “Karipap.”
Following the introductory session led by Adi, CEO Sean Tay took the floor to deliver a welcoming address. His address extended a warm welcome to all school students, ranging from Form 1 to Form 6 students at Yayasan Chow Kit's KL Krash Pad. Mr Sean provided a brief overview of MatrixC as a company and highlighted how the platform being installed on the Chromebook is called World School Project which is an e-learning platform powered by one of the partners, RECQA, can facilitate continuous learning for students.
The programme continued with a brief introduction to Yayasan Chow Kit (YCK) by Ms. Pusenthi, a senior staff member and counsellor at KL Krash Pad. The introduction lasted approximately 15 minutes. Subsequently, from 10:30 am onwards, the learning session transitioned to an online format, with Mr Sean guiding the students on how to utilise World School Project (WSP), powered by RECQA on their Chromebooks. The students were captivated by the various tools available within WSP, such as creating creative presentation slides using Canva based on their learnings from various subjects including English, History, and Science.
After an hour, the closing ceremony commenced from 11:30am to 12pm. It started with a prize-giving ceremony to the winners of the best slide presentations, followed by closing speeches from Sean Tay and Ms. Pusenthi expressed gratitude to MatrixC for organising such a remarkable event at Yayasan Chow Kit, KL Krash Pad. Sean delivered an inspiring closing speech, encouraging the children to embrace lifelong learning, take care of their Chromebooks, and remember that ‘You learn the best when you teach others.' Emcee Adi reinforced the sentiment by stating, 'In life, true richness goes beyond material wealth to encompass various other aspects.'
Later in the day, a group photoshoot was organised by Mr. Shafuan, the media coordinator, before the students dispersed to savour a Nasi Ayam lunch provided by Chicken Rice Shop.
