Coding is increasingly becoming one of the most important skills of the current and future generations to learn. Realizing its importance in technology-driven 21st century world, the Royal Government of Bhutan has accorded high value to imparting coding skills to students by setting up the Education Flagship Project. Towards achieving this vision, Ministry of Education, Department of Information Technology and Telecom (DITT) and Royal Education Council (REC) are working towards introduction of coding education in our school system from classes PP to XII from 2020 academic session.
The three agencies are working with LeapLearner on coding curriculum for students and training for teachers. LeapLearner is a cutting-edge education startup and a coding "education platform that aims to cultivate self-learning and 21st-century skills among students worldwide and prepare them for the world of tomorrow" (https://www.linkedin.com/company/leaplearner). In the coming weeks, LeapLearner will be training ICT teachers on Scratch and Python programming to prepare them to teach new coding curriculum to students.
