Thursday MAY 1st- 3:30-5:30 Outside 16th and Haak Elementary School-
CARDBOARD ARCADE! Prizes for best homemade games. Open to public.
For 8 years Reading School District has put together a cardboard arcade event open to families and the community. This year 16th & Haak will be hosting this unique event. Now it's time to get together and celebrate again, but we need your help.
You can be part of the action. Take some time and create a game at home with your family and bring it to what could be our biggest community arcade event yet.
This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate not only our creativity but our community as well. Let’s make this event a success by working hard and making some games to bring to the event on May 1st at 16th & Haak Elementary School.
All kids play for free!
Caine’s Arcade is a short film about a nine year old boy who created a cardboard arcade in his father’s Los Angeles auto parts store. This You Tube video was the inspiration for our arcade. Using cardboard, recyclable materials and a lot of ingenuity you are challenged to create a fun, dynamic, and fully operational arcade game.
Any kind of games can be made.
If you are interested, this is what you need to do:
1– Watch Caine’s Arcade on YouTube for inspiration.
2– Find a box, and get creative. Any students, families, or staff can participate. Help from family and friends is encouraged. Use what you have in your home and find a way to make it work. Simple or complex. Tiny or large. Based on an existing game or something original.
3- Each game should work, have a title, rules, and necessary parts to play. Anyone can help run the games.
4– Have FUN! Play your game and test it out.
5- Save your game for a day of celebration on May 1st at 16th & Haak Elementary for a day of play!
Sport games are fun!
Games can be big or small.
Use any found materials.
A lot of ideas are online.
