Class Info

Absences/ Lates

If your child is going to be away from school for any reason, please let us know. You can either call the office or send me an email. If you have not confirmed in advance why your child is absent, the office will call you to make sure your child is safe with you. Class begins at 8:58 in the morning and 12:58 in the afternoon. Your child will be marked absent, or late if they are not in class at these times.

Agendas

Due to our current circumstances there will not be paper agendas this year. Instead, our school will be using our classroom web pages to post "agenda" messages and important dates. Please check under the "home" tab daily or often for updates.

Homework

Homework will be kept to a minimum in our class. We hope you spend your evenings enjoying being together as family- eating dinner together, playing games, being active- or whatever else your family enjoys doing together!

Home Reading

Reading at home is the most important thing you can do to help your child succeed in school. It is expected that students read home every night. The recommended time is 20 minutes- but any reading is better than no reading.

Books read at home should not be tricky. This should be a time of practice and enjoyment. The 20 minutes should involve your child either reading to themselves, reading aloud to you, or a combination of both. Reading aloud is very beneficial because it allows them to practice pronunciation and fluency. It also allows you to hear how they are doing, and makes it easy to ask questions to check for comprehension.

Asking questions and discussing the books your child reads helps them develop, and build their reading strategies. I will be sending home some information that explains how to help your child build their reading skills at home.

Reading aloud to your child is also very important. This helps foster a love of reading and books.

Spelling/Phonics- our spelling and phonics program will be completed at school. Students will be working on spelling patterns matched to their ability. There is no expectation to practice words at home.

Water

Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle into the classroom.  Please, no other liquid other than water is allowed.  Please send water in a closeable, reasonably-sized water bottle labeled with your child's name. We also have a sink in the classroom for refills.

Snacks and Lunches

Healthy kids learn better! Please take into consideration packing healthy choices for your child to eat at school. These keep kid's tummies full, which allows their brains to stay focused. A big healthy breakfast is also essential, as well as ensuring they get a good night's sleep. Students will not have access to microwaves.

We also cannot share utensils, so please make sure you have all utensils are supplied from home.

*We are a peanut-free school.

Library Books - watch for update info on our school library procedures

We will visit the library once a week. Students are allowed to take out 2 books. Students (not parents!) are responsible for taking care of the book and ensuring it gets returned the following week. If books are not returned, students will not be allowed to take out new books until the book is found, or the lost-book fee is paid.

Our Library Day is:  Wednesday @ 11:45

Book Orders

Each month, Scholastic book orders will be sent home. Ordering is purely optional. All points received from class orders allow for more books to be ordered for the fourth grade classrooms.  Keep in mind – books make great gifts for kids! NEW this year: If a parent using a teacher’s Class Code submits an order using ‘Ship to School’ as the shipping method, that order will go to the cart of the Book Clubs teacher and then the teacher will need to submit it to Scholastic before the order will ship. These orders will be shipped to the school address associated with the teacher’s account. Parents will be charged for their own orders, not the Book Clubs teacher. However, the combined total value of orders being submitted by a Book Clubs teacher at one time must be $40 or more in order to qualify for free shipping. If the combined value is less than $40 a shipping charge of $7.50 (pre-tax) will be applied and must be paid by the submitting Book Clubs teacher.

When you checkout, please enter my Class Code (RC143442). When you use my Class Code, our class earns 20% of the value of the order in rewards
