CTSS Mental Health Practitioners work with clients on behavior intervention to decrease mental health symptoms and support children in reaching their appropriate developmental and social functioning levels. These services assist and support individuals in developing skills in areas such as emotional regulation, anger management, following directions, peer relationships, problem solving, anxiety, depression, family conflicts and many others. All of these skills are taught and practiced in the context of the developmental age of the child. Working with the family, CTSS practitioners develop measurable treatment goals and interventions that are part of the child's individualized Treatment Plan. Skills workers typically meet with the child at school 1-3 times a week, depending on their needs. Skills groups are also offered at the New Hope Clinic throughout the year.
To qualify for CTSS, clients must be in grades K-12 and have a comprehensive evaluation completed by a mental health professional within the last year (parent and child must attend an intake meeting with a People Incorporated Mental Health Practitioner to complete an evaluation)- CTSS must be listed as medically necessary with a Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED) diagnosis. Although not required, we strongly encourage those receiving services to have a therapist.
